The howling of the wind passed by, and two panthers sat in their dens to watch.

The stars flecked while they formed beautiful sparkles in the night sky. The constellations are beautiful.

"Mama?" The kit asked.
"Yes, Night Whisker?" Her mother replied. These panthers were as black as the night sky. "You're not going to leave me like the others left us... Are you?"
Night Whisker huddled closer to her mother for the soft warmth of her pelt.

"No. No matter what, I will always be with you." The mothers soft purr soothed Night Whisker. "You will always be here... With me?"

"I know you are scared. The others were fools for leaving this prey rich land, in hope of possibly finding something better." She stopped.

"A place that may not exist at all."

Her mothers dark words scared Night Whisker even more.

"Don't be scared." Her mother soothed.
"But don't we need the others?" Night Whisker asked.
Her mother looked at her, a soft gaze in her gold eyes that shined in the night sky.

"No. As long as we have each other, we will be fine." She licked Night Whisker's head.
"Now, let's sleep." her mother yawned. "We have a big day ahead.

Night Whisker was awoken by the chill of the night wind. It was still midnight. She looked, and her mother was gone. "Mama?" Night Whisker called into the night. The words were lost in the dark. She trembled at the chill of the wind. She left the den.

"Mama?" She called at every nook and cranny. But she was nowhere.

She said she would never leave me. Night Whisker thought to herself.

While she was thinking about where to look next, she tripped and fell. Night Whisker straightened and shook all the dirt out of her fur.

Then she padded up to the object to inspect it. She was left speechless and denied the thought.

Bone and flesh. And some black fur. The corpse looked as if it was forcefully dragged and aten.

It was laying on the bloody grass on its left side. The left side of the animal looked still in tact. But it was long dead.

Night Whisker flipped the corpse over. It was a night black panther with gold eyes. It was too familiar to not know who this is.

"M-mama?" Night Whisker stammered.

"NO! You can't be dead!" She cried. It was indeed her mother. She nozed her muzzle. It was freezing cold.

"You said you'd always be here..." She began. "Always with me." Her mother remained unmoving.

"Why did you lie to me? I want to wait here until I die with you."

Night Whisker huddled between her mothers stiff arms and hugged her.

"I promise. I will find who did this to you. And I will be strong. I will be okay." And with that, she fell asleep.
