The marauders were sitting in the Great Hall, enjoying their breakfast. Well, except Sirius, who was so tired and nervous he barely touched anything.
'Moony, can you help me with this question here?' asked James innocently, nodding at Padfoot.
'Since when are you bothered to do your homework?' Remus questioned, laughing and leaned to read the question. Sirius acted quickly, he had the bottle prepared and poured the potion in his friend's pumpkin juice, watching the transparent drops disappear in the orange liquid. Peter gave him a suspicious look, blushing, when Sirius made an eye contact with him. The boy shrugged in response, signalling it was nothing important. Remus soon turned back to his breakfast, taking a sip of his pumpkin juice. Sirius felt his body filling up with excitement and guilt. They both had a free period, and he planned to make it unforgettable.
'Okay, we better go to Divination, right, Peter?' James winked to Sirius as he left the great hall, dragging Peter with him. Padfoot looked around nervously, as if he was looking for some support from fellow housemates. He met Lily's eyes, as she smiled warmly, giving him the comfort he needed. He smiled back gratefully.
'So, eh, Moony. Would you like to go to the astronomy tower for our free?' he asked quickly, realizing that Remus was going to be painfully straightforward for the next few hours.
'Yes, I'd actually love to go to the astronomy tower with you, Sirius' he answered quickly, before covering his mouth with his hands in shock.
'Let's go then' Sirius didn't even try to hide his happiness caused by what Remus had just said. He even started skipping joyfully at one point, when the other boy was trying to figure out what just happened in the great hall and why he couldn't stop himself from saying it. They soon reached the tower, looking at the beautiful scenery in front of them.
'Can you explain what the hell is happening?' there were so many questions Remus wanted to find answers to.
'Well, I'd like to ask you again, the last time. Who is the person you like?' he asked, excitement building up in his chest as he knew, Remus would tell him the truth this time.
'Well. He's quite tall and has beautiful grey eyes and he's generally beautiful and I could look at him for the rest of my life and never get bored and he's a Gryffindor and also one of my best friends, which kind of ruins everything, bloodyhellwhyamItellingyouthis' Sirius's eyes widened as he realized Moony was describing him. Remus collapsed on the floor, panicking. His face was an unnatural shade of scarlet.
'Do you fancy... me?' Sirius held his breath, waiting for the obvious answer.
'Yes, Sirius. And I have for the past six years' Remus now learnt that there was no point in trying, the truth would come out eventually. He felt warm tears sliding down his red cheeks. All he wanted now was to disappear and never come back again.
His sobbing was stopped by Sirius's lips, soothingly kissing him. Moony's heart was beating faster than ever, as he reluctantly kissed Sirius back. His lips tasted of mint, slightly chapped, and yet the best thing Remus ever experienced.
'And all that time we spent worrying about each other, we could've spent together' Sirius hugged him, smiling.
'Wait... does that mean you like me too?'
'You have no idea how many nights I spent thinking about you' Sirius wiped the tears off Remus's face and kissed him again.
They sat together, resting their backs against the wall, Sirius hugging Remus tightly. Something he's been dreaming about for a long time.
'Padfoot, I'm so glad you used Veritaserum on me' the boy admitted, breathing Sirius's scent in.
'Me too, though I still feel guilty for using it on you' he sighed, putting his arm over Remus's shoulder. After a minute of silence Sirius finally spoke.
'So, Remus. Would you like to be my boyfriend?'
'There is nothing I want more than this'.
They left the astronomy tower, their fingers intertwined, to tell James, Peter and Lily the exciting news.
