Chapter One: When Summer Ends...

I always liked taking walks to clear my mind. I loved to be alone to think, but then again who doesn’t.  My life had completely taken an unexpected turn.  Just last week my sister and I were sitting in my bed gossiping about the latest news, Raine was singing to me, and Evan was sending me cute messages.  In such a short week everything had changed.

Helen was my oldest and only sister.  We were like two peas in a pot. We did everything together, we knew each other’s darkest secrets, we were like twins even though she was 3 years older than me.   Five days ago she found out she was pregnant.  She was very excited and I was well shocked.  Three days ago she decided to move in with her boyfriend of six years.  She left Two days ago.  She has completely ignored me all this time.   She ignores my calls and doesn’t respond to any of my messages. We were once so close now she just ignores me.  I am very hurt but she must have her reasons.

Raine is my best friend.  She is very cheerful and very talented.  Last semester she was accepted to a Preforming Arts school in Washington.  She accepted but decided to wait until the new school year started.  She was happy to leave California, she hated it here.  Obliviously I’m going to miss her.  I was her first friend in Pinedale when she came in third grade.  It was always Raine, me, and our ex-bestie Cassandra.  Cassandra Coleman was our bestfriend, the third musketeer.  We had a great friendship.  That all ended freshman year when David, our school’s “Golden boy” asked her out.  She accepted and become his girlfriend. She jumped on the popularity train leaving us on our own.  We really didn’t care.  But this year everything would be different I didn’t have Raine by side anymore.   She left two days ago.  I mean there is still Skype but it just wouldn’t be the same.  She called me yesterday morning and told me all about her sassy roommate and cute classmates.  She always managed to make me smile.  I promised to call her tonight tell her all about my date with Evan.

Evan Chambers. He was David’s Best friend, very smart, but a total player.  I had the biggest crush on him since the tenth grade.  Everyone knew I did including him.  I was surprised when he asked me to be his date to Cassandra’s party.  I of course accepted.  I wondered why now? If he knew I like him why did he take so long to ask me out? I just figured that he finally noticed me and wanted to give me a chance but boy was I wrong.

Yesterday was Cassandra’s party. Everyone was there.  Evan had texted me and told me to meet him there.  It took a lot of convincing but my parents finally let me go.  When I got there Evan immediately asked me if Ana, my friend, was going to come too.  I told him yes since she told me she did plan to.   All through the night he would bring her up and ask questions about her.  I thought he was gathering information for a friend or something.  Around ten he asked me to text her and tell her to meet up with us.  A while later she did arrive and he asked me to get some drinks.  When I got back I discovered Evan and Ana in a heavy make out session.  I was just so mad, I felt betrayed.   When they pulled apart I confronted Evan about it. That was a huge mistake.  He looked mad, mad because I interrupted their make out session.  He told me that I was very pathetic to think that he would be interested in me.  He said that I was just a waste of time. He confessed to have been using me to get Ana all along.  He knew about my crush so he took advantage of the opportunity.  He kept screaming and me and calling me names. I guess I was just too shocked to reply to him.  Everyone at the party saw and heard everything. When things started to get worse Cassandra came up to us.  I really thought that she would help me or defend me. I mean I was there when he mother passed away.  I was there when she was abused. I was always there for her.  I really thought she would defend me.  Instead she yelled at me for ruining her party, called me a stupid loser, and slapped me.  I was again very shocked. I left without a fight without a word. It made me feel so weak but I did not want to fight anymore. I guess my first date was completely a disaster.
