"Damn it! I'm so bored," Vergil said exhausted. "How long have we been on this damn thing anyway?"
"Look man, I don't know," Phsteven said. "Just have some patience. We could be doing this forever remember."
The alarm in the submarine went off, a loud blaring horn and bright red light flashed overhead.
"We're breaching again," Phsteven said. "Gear up." Phsteven grabbed both of his great swords and strapped them to his back. Vergil picked up up his pistol, shotgun, and then his rocket launcher. Pistol on hip, shotgun on the leg, and rocket launcher on his back. The alarm stopped and the light stopped flashing.
"We've breached," Vergil said with a sigh, "for like the hundredth time."
Vergil climbed up the ladder to the hatch on top of the submarine, opened it up, and faced the bright light that flooded in. Vergil raised his hand to block the bright sun. He blinked once, twice, three times before his eyes finally adjusted. When he looked around, something about the area seemed familiar. The submarine had breached in an ocean, resting in the deepest point it could. Off in the distance, a town  could be seen, its lights twinkling in the setting suns light.
"Hang on a sec, Phsteven, I know that town!" Vergil said in an excited tone. "That's my home town, that's Valengate!"
Vergil leapt out of the submarine, splashing down, the water reaching halfway up his shins, and began ran towards the town with Phsteven right behind him.
"Wait! Vergil, slow down man," Phsteven called out after him. "We don't know if that's your town or not."
"Of course it is," Vergil called behind him. "I'd know it anywhere."
Vergil continued to run until he finally entered the town. He looked around with excitement in his eyes.
I'm finally home, he thought to himself. I've been away for so long, I know people will be excited to see me. He continued to look around until he saw her standing there, her dark brown eyes and short black hair where just the same as he remembered.
"Katy! Katy!" he called out. He ran over to her and stopped directly in front of her. She gave him a confused look, which in turn confused him. "Leo, it's me. It's Vergil. Come on, don't act like you don't recognize me."
She continued to give him a confused, almost scared look. "Look, I don't know how you know my name, but I don't know who you are."
The seriousness in her tone made Vergil's heart drop like a stone. His smile slowly started to fade. "Hey, come on, stop joking around, you know me," he said, his voice starting to shake. "Don't mess with me. It's me. I know I've been gone awhile but I haven't been gone that long. Come on, we used to get ice cream together."
She started to back away from him slowly. "I'm really sorry, sir," she said, "but I really don't know who you are. I have to go now." She turned and walked away quickly.
Vergil got scared, he didn't know what was going on. He began to turn quickly in all directions, looking for another familiar face. Finally, he spotted one.
"Clay! Hey, Clay." Vergil ran over to a man in a pair of blue suspenders and a white undershirt. The man turned to look at Vergil but only had a confused look on his face.
"Well how do you do stranger?" He said, "can't say I know how you know my name though. You one of them psychic types or something?"
Vergil could feel his heart rate start increasing but he managed to get out, "Sorry, didn't mean to bother you. You remind me of an old friend." Clay shrugged and walked off.
Vergil sunk and fell to his knees. His breathing was slow and heavy. He began to panic, tears starting to well in his eyes. Suddenly, he felt an arm go around him and pat his right shoulder. Phsteven was crouched next to him giving him an awkward huge.
"You good, buddy?" Phsteven asked after about a minute. Vergil wiped his eyes and nodded. "Okay then," Phsteven said. "Let's go kill a horrible abomination."
Just then, a dark pool appeared several feet from where they were and from it emerged a figure draped in a dark cloak, a hood concealing his face. When it spoke, it's voice was deep and cold.
"What's the matter, dear boy?" It asked. "Not fond of nightmares?" The world around them began to shift and melt, altering until they were standing in an open field. "So, you're the dark presence," Vergil said.
"Yes, you may call me No One."
"Well this certainly is new," Phsteven said. "Never encountered a dark presence capable of advanced communication, let alone controlling their own worlds."
"Oh yes, I'm capable of far more then any other you've seen thus far," it said calmly. "I am one of the first in a new bread of superior beings, all things given to us by our great one."
"And who the hell is that?" Phsteven asked. "Never you mind that right now," it snapped quickly. "You're not leaving this place alive."
"Psteven how many times does that make for someone saying that to us?" Vergil asked. "By my count, I'd say fourteen," Psteven said as a response.
"Really? Huh, my memory must be getting bad, I only had thirteen."
"Enough of this, now you die!" A host of shadows came out from under his cloak and came right at the two standing across from him. Psteven drew his two great swords, charged forward and began slashing. Vergil drew his pistol and began shooting, hitting nothing but head shots. After all of them were gone, Vergil turned back to No One. "Is there going to be anything else or just more useless goons?"
No One began to laugh. "Oh no, dear boy," he said calmly. "I was simply seeing what you were made of. Now you will truly see what power I hold! I will show you the awe inspiring power that the darkness possesses! You will suffer for a thousand years until you-" BANG
Vergil had shot from his pistol, hitting him square between the eyes. The being dissolved into a pool of dark ooze that evaporated into the air. Suddenly, the sky seemed to get a little lighter and the sun seemed to shine brighter.
"Well Phsteven," Vergil said. "I guess our work here is done."
"Yeah, I guess it is," Phsteven said. "Well, let's get back to the sub, huh?"
Vergil looked back over his shoulder at the town that looked all to similar to his own and let out a long sigh. "Yeah, I guess we should". Psteven patted him on the shoulder. "Don't worry buddy, you'll go home. Some day."
"Yeah," Vergil said, taking one last look at the town. "Some day".
