Black pushed through the dark, churning waves, each one making her grapple with the sand and rocks under her paws.
She'd been traveling along the shoreline, picking at little crabs and dead fish with her tiny, sharp teeth. Another reason she was disliked. Her teeth. Small and useless.
A pack had come over the hills, barking and grinning with bloody pride as they pushed her into the freezing water. They'd camped out near the shoreline since, determined not to let her go but not wanting to get their paws wet.
She shivered as a particularly large wave crashed into her, soaking her fur and sending salt-water into her skin.
Tonight will be a cold one.
