Safe and sound
I looked at the younger boy beside me. His eyes closed, curled up into a ball. He looked so cute when he slept. Like a ball of innocence, protected from the horrible word around him. I love it when he slept. He got to keep the innocence that had been so brutally taken from us. Because the truth was we were running away, we were illegal. A couple, homosexuals, wanted by the state. The outbreak of AIDS was flaring up, as a last resort the government took drastic measures. All gays in solitary confinement, illegal, have them arrested. They would go to a facility where they would be isolated from the population as to not spread the disease and then go through conversion therapy. But when Troye was asleep, it was like he didn't know that, like we could be safe and sound.
I remember tears streaming down you're face when I said I'd never let you go
We heard the sirens, they were loud and overbearing. But I knew who they were coming for.. They were coming for us.. They were coming for my Troye boy, my tokie. I froze but not for long, I was quickly shaking him up, his eyelids flew open revealing his sparkling blue  eyes. "They're here" he gasped, to which I quickly nodded. Tears were streaming down his face, "what now?" His voice came across in a hushed whisper to which I replied "I'll never let you go tokie."
Come morning light, you and I'll be safe and sound
We were running, through the alleyways, carrying what few items we had left in our backpacks. We had to find another place to hide and we could still hear the sirens, I saw a small doorway to what looked like a basement, I quickly shoved the blue eyed boy inside and followed suit "we're going to be alright"
Don't you dare look out your window darling
Everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
I knew that sound immediately.. It was a raid, looking for illegals whose names had been noted before we knew better, we never would have taken that damn test if we knew we would be listed.   I heard the knock that unwanted knock, and I knew they were here. Troye had gone out to try and get food. He wouldn't see me again. I knew he wouldn't. My name was on the list, I was an illegal. I quickly scribbled a note to him and left it on the table "darling everything's on fire, don't let the kill your light"
I heard the door open, and I knew it was time
I know I said I'd never let you go
