"Please Jace! Please don't leave me!!! You're the best thing that has ever happened to me!!! I love you!!!" I screamed. I squeezed his hand as tight as I could while sobbing on his chest. He struggled to pat me on the head with his broken arm. I slowly pushed his arm back to where it was. He was already in too much pain.
"I...Love...You too....Ellen." He struggled to let out. I looked up at his face while I dried my soaked eyes with his blanket. I saw him smiling weakly at me with his eyes half open. He leaned in to kiss me probably for the last time. I tried to enjoy every second of it. He slowly pulled away and his eyes slowly closed. My eyes quickly filled with tears again.
"Help!! I need a doctor!!! Jace is dying!!! Please help!!!" I screamed from Jace's room. I saw all the doctors rush into his room. They pulled me off of him and made me stand in the hallway.
I watched as they tried to keep Jace alive through the window. I fell to the cold, white floor and started to cry again. My older brother, Gunner, ran over to me and pulled me into one of those big bear hugs that I always loved, except for today. He sat down next to me.
"Hey! It's going to be okay Ellen. He's strong, he'll pull through, don't worry." He said happily. I looked up at him then continued crying. He rubbed my back in small circles.
"Gunner... You don't understand. How can I live with myself if he dies? My life will be turned completely upside down!" I yelled. Gunner looked through the window that led into Jace's room. The doctors were completely blocking his view of Jace.
"Like I said, everything will be fine. Think of the positives." He shook my body back and forth gently.
"There are no positives Gunner. I'm going to loose my boyfriend over one, brutal car accident!" I yelled. Gunner stood up and grabbed my hand. He pulled me up along with him.
"Listen. Even if he does die. He will still always be in your heart right?" Gunner whispered. I stood there frozen-faced with tear-filled eyes.
"Sure, but I want him to stay here with me. I can't let him go like this!" I ran back into Jace's room and pushed all of the doctors out of the way. I watched as Jace was struggling for life.
"Please don't go Jace. I need you!" I whispered. I leaned in for one last hug good-bye.
"I... Love... You." Jace struggled to let out. After that, I felt his body go limp.
He was gone.
I fell to the floor and cried like I never had before.
"I hate my life!!!!" I screamed. Gunner ran into the room and picked me up off the floor and took me back into the hallway. All the doctors rushed back over to Jace to see if there was anything else they could do to help him survive. But only I knew he was gone for good.
Gunner helped me back to me feet in the hallway and walked me to his car in the hospital parking lot. He grabbed my shoulders and turned to me.
"Listen to me Ellen. Everything is going to be alright. You still have me and I will help you for however long you need me to. I know this looks bad now, but Jace will always be with you. No need to worry." Gunner hugged me with all of his strength.
I jumped into the car with him. I pulled out my phone and saw that i had one new text message. I could hardly read it though because of my tear-filled eyes. It was from.... Jace, before he had died.
"I love you Ellen. Don't you ever forget that.-Jace." Reading that made my cry all over again. Gunner had a feeling that these next few years were going to be the worst years of our lives.
