A white shecat and a black shecat, both only four moons old, lay side by side shivering by the cold snow that they had buried themselves in to try to keep warm, which hadn't been working. Both of them had shallow breaths. They wanted to give up. The smaller, fluffier white shecat sat up slowly. She knew they were going to have to eat.
"Panic..." The black shecat mumbled and shivering more, "where are you going?"
"I'm just going to get some food. I'd rather freeze to death then starving to death." Panic meowed trying to make the best of their situation.
"L-let me come t-too then." Shivering, the black shecat slowly got up not wanting to be left alone.
"Alright, come along Chaos." Panic meowed quietly. She didn't want to leave her big sister alone either. She could freeze to death before she came back!
"T-thank you." Chaos dipped her head to her sister then followed her through the broad forest.
The two sisters stayed by each other. The forest was a scary place for them. Ever since they had been abandoned by their parents only half a moon ago they barely ever left each other's side. They couldn't stand the idea of leaving each other just in case something happened to one of them.
Then there was pawsteps! They were heading toward them. Leaves rustled. Snow crunched under paws. The two sisters both looked at each other and started to run toward the sound. For all they knew it could be their parents coming back for them.
"Slow down Twilightpaw! You're going to scare all the prey away with all the ruckus you are making." The two sisters stopped in their tracks.
Clan cats. That could never be good.
"Hey Grimshade, I smell two cats."
Panic looked to Chaos a little scared now. They just couldn't be caught by the clan cats, even if that meant more food. Chaos shivered and stepped up.
"We come in peace. Please. We just need a place to stay." Chaos pleaded softly. Panic quickly stepped up next to her sister. She still couldn't see the clan cats.
"Come out of the ferns. We need to be able to see you." So that's what the two sisters did. They stepped around the fern bushes that had been separating the clan cats from the two outsiders.
The bigger white and black tom was slightly shocked to see such young kits together without anyone else with them. The smaller black shecat looked a little worried to see two outsiders in their land.
"Follow us, we will let our leader decide what to do with you two outsiders." The white and black tom hissed the last word making Panic and Chaos flinch.
He started to walk back through the snow and the black shecat stayed by them. Panic stayed close to her sister making sure she was fine the whole way and not freezing to death or getting too scared.
"Hey don't worry about Grimshade. He can be a little mean sometimes, but he means it all in good nature." The black shecat smiled to both of the small kits.
"You must be Twilightpaw then. We heard your name being yelled by him before. That's how we found you." Panic meowed. She was the leader of the two of them. She always stood up for her sister and went out to hunt after their parents had left them and never returned.
"Yes I am. Now I am sorry but I can't speak anymore. We are almost there." Twilightpaw smiled and caught up to Grimshade.
The rest of the trip Panic looked around the broad forest. All the trees were big pine trees that looked like that could fall and crush them at any moment. That worried her. Her ears picked up the sounds of some snow crunching under paws, wings flapping, and birds tweeting. On the ground most of it was covered in snow. There were some fern bushes that looked like they were full of thorns. They better stay away from that. She caught a few scents of squirrels high up in the trees most likely hibernating for bareleaf like her mother told them they did.
