He trudged through the simmering desert, the ancient earth around him swallowed by the night sky. His weathered boots kicked up the familiar dust that had coated his childhood. A typhoon was brewing in his mind, his mouth threatening to let the inner chaos free. His prized faith was struggling to keep up with the blood splattered glamour his career had sunk its teeth into.

"Fuck..." He murmured through cracked lips, his bones aching for a network of warmth only bourbon or whiskey could bring.

Why was he stomping across a dirt patch in Nevada at 2 AM? He always felt safest in the desert, the lingering warmth and sand helping to clear his head. "I crossed a line, can't go back."

He came to a small clearing, away from the lit up neon sins and the hypnotic strip. The only witness to him reclining onto the desert floor was the band of stars high above. He spread his fingers against his neck and traced the smudged lipstick she had left.

"It's been a hard night.." He confessed towards the sky, his brown eyes focusing on nothing at all as his memories rewound to five days prior.
