After the death of Hokage Tsunade in the fourth great ninja war, the hidden leaf village's council is in search of a new leader for the village.
The council asks Kakashi Hatake, jonin level shinobi from the leaf village, if he will kindly take up the offer and become the next Hokage of the village hidden in the leaves. He rejects the offer and redirects them to ask Shikamaru Nara if he will assume the position.
Shikamaru accepts the offer and becomes the sixth Hokage of the village.
