It wasn't days, nor even hours after arriving back at home in Cali before Dipper began feeling Falls-Sick. He missed the shack, the odd creatures, his older teenage friends, and most of all, the girl of his dreams. He put his bags in his room, flopped down on his bed, and let out a grumble. He hated his thirteen year old emotions. He hated how he had fallen for Wendy within a week of being there. He hated how he had to spend the school year here away from her.
"Aw, c'mon Dipper." Mabel said as she put a hand on his back, patting it, "It'll be summer before you know it." She gave him an encouraging smile.
Dipper rolled over onto his stomach before sitting up, "Easy for you to say, Mabel." He let out a grumble, "You aren't looking forward to anything..."
"I am, too!" Mabel snapped at him, "Don't you remember Candy and Grenda? You weren't the only one who made friends, Dipper."
"Yeah, but Wendy isn't just a friend." He said, squinting his eyes at her, his arms crossed over his chest like an pouty five-year-old.
Mabel let out a sigh, "Brobro, there's just some people you have to let go, for your own sake." She put her arm around his shoulders, holding him in a headlock. She scruffed up his brown hair before laughing, "But I'm not gonna stop you. C'mon, let's go get unpacked." She hopped down off the side of his bed and walked over to his bags.
Dipper's eyes followed his sister. He drew up a breath and exhaled in a sigh before hesitantly stumbling after her. He slowly unpacked his clothes, putting them back where they belonged. He felt a tugging at his pant leg and looked down to find a smiling Waddles peering up at him. His two small black eyes blinked at him before he let out a soft oink. Dipper reached down and picked him up, "What's wrong, buddy?"
Waddles snorted and squirmed out of his hands before grabbing Mabel's scrapbook of Gravity Falls. He sat it down at Dipper's feet. He sat down and took a deep breath before looking through it. He began with flipping through the pages, looking at pictures of him and Mabel on the bus ride there. Waddles nosed the page to turn it and it landed on a page with several different photos. However, the one that caught Dipper's eye was a picture of him and Wendy standing at the cash register. He felt mixed emotions as he saw it. He wanted to smile, but also to cry. Dipper was suddenly distracted by Waddles oinking and pointing a hoof to a picture of him and the goat, Gompers. Waddles looked back up at him with a sad look on his face. Dipper looked at the pig and smiled, "Me too, Waddles..." He glanced at the picture of him and Wendy once more, getting the same fluttery feeling in his stomach as he did whenever he was around her. He gave a brief laugh, unaware his eyes were tearing up. A tear dropped on the page right beside the photograph. He wiped his eyes and sighed, "Next summer, Waddles." The pig snorted at him and licked another tear off his cheek.
Mabel came back into their room, eyes widening as she saw what Dipper had, "Don't make it worse, brobro." She stepped over and picked up the scrapbook, "Where did you find it anyways?"
"Let's just say I'm not the only one missing someone." Dipper looked down at Waddles, "Shame we didn't bring Gompers for the little guy."
"Mom and Dad would've freaked." Mabel laughed and pat Waddles on the head, "Don't worry, I'll have Candy and Grenda mail us pictures of him." The pig squealed in response and the twins giggled.
Dipper suddenly got a marvelous idea. He suddenly found himself grinning from ear to ear, "You just gave me an idea!"
"Wait what." Mabel said, but Dipper had already taken off for his backpack. He pulled out a notebook and a pen, laughing hysterically. Mabel's eyes widened as she backed up a couple steps "Dipper, you're scaring me."
"Good." Dipper headed for his bed and sat down, laying the writing tools down, "I'm gonna write Wendy a letter. That's how I can keep in contact with her."
Mabel grinned, "Ooooooo~" She giggled, "That's a great idea, broseph!" She ran up to him and sat down beside him, "So, whatcha waiting for?"
"Er, I was thinking I could write in privacy..." Dipper said, his face reddening. He gave her a smile.
"Ugh, fine." She nudged him and ruffled up his brown hair, "Good luck with your love note, lover boy." She joked and grinned at him encouragingly.
Dipper smiled at her as she went over to her bed to play with Waddles. He looked down at his notebook and turned it to a blank page, beginning to write his first of many (hopefully) letters to her.
Dear Wendy,
Hey, I know it wasn't long I saw you, but I couldn't help myself. I was wondering if maybe you'd like to keep in contact since we aren't going to see each other until next Summer. I mean, it's okay if you don't want to waste an envelope, paper, and time on me, but I just figured sending you a letter wouldn't hurt. Your hat is safe on top of my head right now, so don't worry about Waddles chewing on it. I hope you're enjoying your last few days before school starts back up. Hopefully you're having a better time getting back to a regular life in Oregon. I mean, since I'm not there hunting down the odd stuff anymore. Anyways, tell everyone I said hi. I sure do miss the falls and the people I left behind. I've gotta get back to unpacking. Hope you enjoy this letter. Bye for now.
Your friend,
Dipper PinesDipper bit his lip before folding it enough to fit in an envelope. He walked out of his room and found his mom washing dishes. He sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck, "Hey, Mom, do we have any stamps. I wrote a letter I want to send back to my friends in Oregon."
"Of course, honey." She looked down at him with a smile, "I think that's really sweet of you, and it's a good idea to write to them." She dried off her hands and grabbed a stamp and envelope out of a drawer. She handed them to him, "Here you go, sir."
"Thanks, Mom." Dipper grinned, looking at the small stamp, "You're the best." He went back to his room and wrote her address down on it, thankful for his good memory of when he went there for movie nights. He stuck the folded notebook paper inside and licked the envelope to seal it. He put the stamp on it, which was really ironic because it had a stack of logs on it. He darted out the door and stuck it in the mailbox, putting the flag up. He grinned and practically skipped back inside, running into Mabel. He skidded to a stop, just inches from colliding with her, "O-oh..." He said in alarm, "Heh, sorry."
"Didja finish your letter?" Mabel asked excitedly. Her eyes sparkled as she let out a SQUEE once Dipper nodded, "Ohmygosh, Brobro, that's adorable."
"Shushhhh." Dipper hushed her with a roll of his eyes. He crossed his arms over his chest.
Mabel giggled, "Now let's just hope she sends one back."
Dipper nodded and headed upstairs.
That night Dipper settled into his bed, clinging ahold of Wendy's hat. He slept peacefully with a goofy smile across his face.
