Amelia climbed into the passenger seat apprehensively and looked out the window as Dr. Reid started up the vehicle and merged into traffic. The ride was completely silent in the beginning until he started asking her questions. They came to a sort of agreement that each question would be answered with either a snap for no or two snaps for yes, seeing as how he couldn't really watch her sign while he drove.
"Have you ever been adopted before?" Easy enough, a snap for no.
"Do you have any day clothes other than your uniform?" Yet another single snap. No one there really had anything else besides their uniform and a set of 'pajamas', it was too expensive. None of the older children would have any real use for them, and the younger ones grew too fast.
"Would you mind going on trips often?" Amelia saddened slightly, knowing she wouldn't be going on any trips before snapping once. He couldn't know she would be leaving him so soon after he took her home.
"Alright then, would you like to meet my family? I mean they're not really my blood family family, we're just really close to each other because of work and friendship, and I'd like to think we're a family. To be honest, I haven't seen them nearly month because we haven't had any cases. With that and everyone's busy personal lives I miss them." Smiling at his short rant she snapped twice. It was good to know such a seemingly kind man had such a close family in his life.
"That's great, we'll go see them tomorrow!" His voice was laced with excitement whilst if she had one to use, it would be laced with sadness, knowing she won't be there tomorrow to meet them with him. She'd already made up her mind and knew exactly what she was going to be doing.
The drive wasn't that long, excluding the stops at signs and lights, it was 13 minutes and 47 seconds by Amelia's count. So if she were travel at a walking (more like jogging) speed of 4 mph she should get back to the orphanage in approximately two hours, faster if she were to run. She learned through the rest of the drive that he was a profiler for the FBI, which made his tight-nit family make even more sense.
Opening the door Dr. Reid smiled as she stepped out, looking at the small apartment sized house before her. "It's nice Docror Reid." she signed, and he smiled wider.
"Thank you Amelia, but you can call me Spencer." Unlocking and pushing open the door, he held it open for her to enter first. Walking inside she looked around, holding her satchel close to her body. "I have a satchel just like that one for work."
Amelia raised an eyebrow, shaking her head and looking at him, letting out a silent laugh when she saw him sticking out his tongue at her. "It's pretty late, shouldn't we get ready to sleep?" He looked at a clock hanging over a table and nodded in agreement.
"20:17, showers and sleep seems adequate. You can sleep on my bed and I'll sleep on the couch for the night, okay?" Amelia quickly shook her head in protest, her hands moving at a barely followable speed.
"I'll sleep on the couch, I don't mind." She smiled and he looked at her questioningly, as if saying 'are you sure?' Amelia took off her satchel and laid it beside the couch in a sort of claim, signing to him. "I'm positive I'll be more comfortable." He was hesitant before he nodded and walked to his room.
"I'll be in my room reading if you need anything, alright? Go ahead and shower before bed if you want." She nodded to him and pulled out her pajamas. "Goodnight D-... Spencer." He walked to a door down the hall after pointing out the bathroom door for her to change. "Goodnight Amelia, rest well."
She looked up at the clock. 23:46, time to go. She had written a note in her time waiting and walked into Spencer's room silently, seeing an open folder in his sleeping arm. She shook her head, slipping the note into it before quickly leaving the room, grabbing her satchel and leaving, a few stray tears running down her cheek.
"Goodbye Doctor Spencer Reid..."
