Niall sits in the polyester, purple chair that the principal seems to think is stylish. He lays his head down on the old man's desk and looks up at him with bored eyes. He knows the reason that he is here, just doesn't seem to care.
The principal, Mr.Cowell glares down at the blonde boy who could have so much potential. This isn't the first time he was graced with the young Horan's appearance, actually the kid is always in the office with him. They have a budding relationship, but he has to inforce the rules.
"Niall, your skipping classes - failing tests, talking back to teachers..."
"I know what I'm doing, I'm there when it happens." Niall rolls his eyes, sitting up and leaning back in his chair. "I don't see the point of this meeting, just to tell me what I've done? Give me my suspensions and let's move on with our lives."
"Suspensions?" Mr.Cowell laughs, "You'd like those. You think I will reward you for your behavior?"
Niall raises a suspicious eyebrow.
"No, we can't have that." Mr.Cowell stands from his seat and stares at the blonde lad. "Your punishment will be something beneficial for us both."
"What the hell are ya' goin' on about, then?" Niall can feel himself getting worked up, he doesn't like being the butt of someone elses joke. Then he hears the door open behind them, but he doesn't break eye contact with his current opponent.
"In fact." Mr.Cowell smirks, leaning away from the boy. "Here it is right now,"
Only then does Niall turn around and he has to stifle a groan, there standing at the door is Harry - with his cheap backpack which is practically weighing the thin boy down. Harry doesn't look to happy to be here either, Niall can tell this isn't going to be good.
"Mr.Cowell." Harry speaks up, only to be cut off.
"Now, now Harry. You agreed to do this for that recommendation for early admission into Harvard." He then turns to Niall.
Of course there was a reason Harry would agree to this, college recommendations. That's all Harry ever thinks of anymore, that's what makes it so fun to tease him - that's what Niall thinks. He smirks and tilts his head at Harry.
"What does he have to do with my punishment, then?" Niall asks, amused.
"I've taken the liberty of getting our top student, Harry Styles here..." Mr.Cowell puts on a smirk of his own and turns to Niall. "Well he is going to tutor you,"
Niall has to hold himself back from scoffing. A tutor? He doesn't need one of those, he doesn't want one either - especially not Harry. The boy is way to serious these days, Niall lives for fun. He is about to open his mouth to reject the Idea when Mr.Cowell speaks again.
"No, you don't have a choice. No you can't change tutors - yes there will be consequences to not abiding by this punishment." The principal droans with a bored expression, answering the questions he knows Niall would have asked. "If you don't get over an eighty-five on the next exam, you will get kicked out of this school, do you hear me?"
Niall's jaw drops, kicked out!?
There is no way that asshat could kick him out - this is his school, he runs it - well, he really thinks he does.
Harry stands back at the door with his arms crossed - part of him wants Niall to just say 'Screw it' and deny the deal, getting kicked out and leaving him alone in the process. But then there is that part of him that honestly misses his best mate - the part of him that is inwardly begging, pleading to whatever God there is for Niall to accept the offer.
Luckily God works in his favor.
"Fine." Niall grunts, standing up quickly. "But if Styles gets on my nerves Imma knock him out."
The way Niall practically spits his name out, makes Harry shiver. It wasn't a good thing, no - he should be hurt, angry that Niall is pushing him away so forcefully... But the way he just said his name, it was more of a turn on for him than he would admit. He clenches his teeth together, trying to keep calm.
Niall thinks that the clenched teeth is a sign of anger in the curly headed lad, he smirks, feeling accomplished about that. He walks out of the room, pumping shoulders with Harry a little too roughly - not that either of them care at that moment.
Harry raises his hand and puts it on top of his newly throbbing shoulder, keeping his face calm and composed, a trait he has learned over the last few years. Mr.Cowell smiles sadly at the thick-rimmed glasses wearing lad standing in his door way. He knew a time when the boys were best mates, though the boys have no idea of Mr.Cowells part in their past. He remembered when Harry used to smile, and when Niall would have that shine of true happiness in his eyes. Over the last few years, both boys have had troubles that the other has no idea of - both boys have their secrets, their heart breaks and their hidden pain.... Mr.Cowell knew that the only way to mend the boys was by reuniting them - even if it was unwillingly, he just hoped for a moment that there was a chance after all.
"Go on then, Mr.Styles. Your Science class is starting in a few minutes, I thought, wouldn't want to be late would we?"
Harry seems to snap out of his little trance from Niall's touch, his face flushes with color as he smiles at Mr.Cowell. He murmers a quiet 'thank you' and heads out the door, scurrying quickly to his advanced Science class.
He can already tell it's going to be a long year.
