She hated her dull life. She did the same thing everyday. She goes to school, heads down to Akihabara, then she went to bed. She was ridiculed for being distant. Everyday, she is mocked. There was only one outlet for her. The mirror.
She would look into it for hours and hours. Most would believe she was self centered, but that wasn't the case. She believed that the mirror was a gateway to another world and that there was someone there that she could talk to and share her feelings with. If you were to walk in on her during this time, you would think she was crazy.
Not one being did she truly talk and vent to. Not her mother, not even her pet bird. She only trusted the mirror. She thought that it wouldn't betray her in the end.
"Kana?! Are you home yet?!" Her mother's voice called out. Kana, the main character of this story, sighed and slid down the door slightly. She put her purse on the coat rack and took off her shoes. Kana lived alone with her mother. Her father died when she was only two.
"Yes mom!" She answers. Her mom peeks her head out of the doorway to the kitchen and smiles at her daughter.
"Okay. Dinner will be ready soon." She says with a perky tone. Kana nods and walks upstairs to her room.
"Don't you want to talk about your day?" Her mom asks, a little disappointed. Kana shakes her head as she ascends the stairs.
"No, I'm fine." She says. By the time she reached her room, she had already thought of what to say about her day. She opens her door and sits on her bed, looking at the ceiling. She had to clear her head before speaking to that special someone.
She sat up and took the mirror from her shelf. She stared into it. Her lacy headband was straight, her black ponytails with a purple hue were almost perfect except for a few stray hairs here and there. Her honey golden-brown eyes gleamed when she was excited. That was a sight no one ever sees.
"Today was the same." She began. She could only see her reflection, but she was sure someone was there.
"People always whisper when I walk by them. I know why. They think I'm weird, and not in a good way. They think I just want attention, although that's the opposite of what I want." She explained to the mirror. She sighed sadly and put the mirror down.
"Why don't you reveal yourself to me? I've been talking to you for years! Why don't you trust me?!" Tears brimmed in her eyes. She huffed when nothing in the mirror changed and picked it up to put it upon the highest shelf.
"Do you hate me? Am I annoying? I'll stop if you want." She subtly begged.
"Kana! Dinner's ready!" Her mother's voice startled her. She made her way downstairs to eat.
"Are you okay? You look like you've been crying." Her mom asked, concerned. Kana nodded.
"I'm fine. I have no clue why you would think anything was wrong." She lied. She took her mom's hand.
"I would tell you if there was." She lied again. She would lie to her loved ones to put them at ease. Tomorrow was going to be the same. Boring and dull with only one spark of excitement.
