Prologue;
Harry's POV:
I've been at my new school for just a bit over a month now.
No one had exactly bullied me yet. Sure, every once in a while a rude comment or sneer is directed at me or someone picks on me because of my glasses, or sweater vest. But it's not on a regular basis.
I even have a friend here. His name is Niall Horan. He's known as a geek as well. But he's still more popular than me.
Alright alright, he doesn't consider me his friend, not that I know of anyway, but he's the only one who is kind to me, so I like to pretend and imagine he was my friend.
Sometimes he smiled at me or waves or even says hi. We don't sit together at lunch and we don't get hang out after school or anything.
I usually sit in the back field of the school under the big oak tree and read while nibbling on my lunch. I try not to eat too much because I don't want another thing for others to be disgusted by.
I've been able to keep my secret so far and I'm planning on doing so for ever. And ever.
That secret being my sexuality. I'm gay.
You see, at my old school I was the main target. When I figured out I was gay, I wasn't exactly hiding it. I just ignored what people whispered as I walked down the halls. I was used to whispering. I was the geeky shy kid who wore ties, bow ties, glasses, sweater vests. It's not like I was new to the world of high school and gossip.
But when people put one and one together, things went up a notch.
Every day, kids from school would beat me black and blue. They would torment me and spit on me.
My mum got fed up seeing me in so much pain all the time and complained but the principal didn't do much.
She decided she didn't want me around these people. These judgmental, discriminating bullies. She pulled me out of the school and we moved. To Doncaster.
She never asked, just assumed, and I never admitted that I hadn't. My mum thought my new school knew I was gay and she believed that this was a better place since I wasn't getting bullied for being gay. When in reality, I wasn't getting bullied because no one knew.
Everyday when i came home from school she would ask about how my day was and if I made any new friends.
"Hey baby, how was school?" She smiled as I walked into the kitchen.
I took off my large glasses and put them on the counter, switching them for my smaller ones.
The large ones were for reading and stuff at school. My small ones were for home, so I wouldn't get headaches.
We started our daily routine.
She turned on the tap and made it warm but not too hot, as I took off my sweater vest and shirt, leaving me bare chested.
I dunked my head under the water and her hands washed the hair gel from my curly locks.
Once it was all out I dried my hair and shook it out.
I sighed and pulled on a jumper.
"Why don't you just go to school with your beautiful curls Harold?" My mum frowned.
"Because they make me look like a kid. All young and I like keeping my hair out of my face at school." I whispered the next part. "Plus, my curls are ugly."
"What was that?" She asked.
"Nothing." I mumbled as Gemma walked in.
"Hey mum, hey Haz." She kissed my head and moms cheek.
