As they approached a darkened hallway inside an old aging building Angel began to tense up. There she was just following a random group of teenagers that she, sure as hell, wouldn't be friends with back home. "Hey guys," Angel said cautiously, "Where are we going?"
"We're just going to introduce you to our friends." Ebony said as if their purpose was obvious, "Don't worry darling." She cracked a smirk and kept walking forward. Just as they were about to enter through a large wooden door Angel heard someone call out.
"There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you. You were supposed to go to the main office when you arrived." Angel turned around and saw a small girl, who must have been at most 5'2" hurrying over towards her.
"Huh?" Asked Angel confused. The small girl grabbed her arm and started to drag her away from Ebony and her friends. When they had gotten quite a bit away from the girls the she stopped and faced Angel.
"Hi there! I'm Samantha Gwender, Dean Richards assigned me as your welcome guide!" Samantha said reaching her hand out for Angel to shake.
"Oh, I didn't know they did that. I'm Angelica, but I prefer people call me Angel." She took Samantha's hand and shook it awkwardly.
"So, let's start with a tour of the dorms, more specifically the Browns Dormitory. That's where us Browns live." Samantha said leading Angel out of the building and towards a path filled with tulips and roses. The marbled path was populated with students, most of which were wearing brown clothing.
"Browns?" Angel asked confused by the terminology.
"Oh wow you are new here aren't ya!" Samantha said while laughing. She walked faster than Angel, leaving her slightly behind. Angel took this moment to examine her "welcome guide" or whatever Samantha had said she was. Samantha had long blonde hair that reached her hips, it was held back at the front by a thin brown headband. Angel had to admit that Samantha was beautiful, her eyes were huge and brown, they seemed to be filled with both infinite knowledge and undying curiosity. She wore a preppy white blouse with a high waisted brown skirt and burgundy stockings. As Angel tried to catch up with Samantha she noticed small peach colored hearing aids in her ears. Angel didn't want to seem ignorant but she thought that deaf people, at least how they were portrayed in the media, had weird lisps and trouble pronouncing words. "I'm not deaf, I'm hard of hearing." Samantha said snapping Angel out of her thoughts. Angel looked at her confused. "I saw you looking at my hearing aids. Anyways." She said quickly changing the subject, "We're here!" Samantha said opening the door to a large cottage looking house. "Welcome to your new home!" She said as she held the door open for Angel, her arms flailing around trying to do jazz hands. Angel laughed as she entered the house and looked around. There were two comfy looking couches that surrounded a burning fireplace. Two girls were sitting on the couch, one was reading a book and the other was painting her nails. To Angel's right there was a staircase heading up to the second floor.
"Wow! This place is even bigger than Ben's house." Angel said, instantly regretting it. Thinking about Ben brought back memories of the day him and his family went missing. She remembered the cold blue eyes and shuddered.
"Don't worry, they'll find him." Samantha said placing her hand on Angel's shoulder. The feeling of Samantha's warm hand brought Angel back to reality.
"Thanks." She said quietly, "How'd you know he was missing?"
"I overheard Dean Richards. He was concerned about you transitioning to a new school after such an incident." Samantha said.
"Oh."
"Yeah." Samantha responded sadly, "Hey, why don't I show you our room?" She said, her mood changing 180 degrees. Samantha grabbed Angel's arm for the second time today and dragged her up the stairs. As they walked down a hallway Angel's thoughts wandered. Samantha seemed a little basic at first but she was starting to noticed that there was more than meets the eyes to her. Samantha giggled and muttered something under her breath. They came to a stop in front of room 13. Samantha used the key hanging on a chain and unlocked the door. "Wow, Zoey 101 fan or something?" Angel said noting the familiar looking pink polka dot pattern on the key/necklace.
"Shut up." Laughed Samantha sitting down on what Angel guessed was her bed. The room was filled with pink, and not just a random sprinkling of pink color every now and then, no, almost everything except the walls was pink.
"Well this is-" Angel started.
"Pink, yeah I know." Samantha said looking a bit disappointed.
"I guess yeah, but I was going to say totally freaking rad!" Angel said laughing and doing a feigned rocker sign.
"Who even says rad anymore?" Laughed Samantha rolling off the bed and onto the carpeted floor.
Angel looked at her and knew at that moment that they would become great friends.
