I found myself pacing back and forth through my living room, a million times, first thing in the morning when I woke up. It was early, even for me. I was used to getting up around six, for either work or school. It was five o'clock in the morning. A lot of things were going through my head as I fell asleep, but I knew for a fact this, me being up pacing like there's no tomorrow, is because that contest. I wanted those tickets, those passes, this chance, so badly. Over the past year, things have progressively gotten worse. Our parents were never around to begin with, and when my mother finally decided to be, she passed away. Our father again, never was around, at least he gave us money, but even that's coming to an anticipated end. Emma and I have school, she doesn't work after so she takes care of Aiden, while I do. And now that summer is right around the corner Emma's scared of what's going to happen. I'm eighteen, a senior in High School. I'm graduating, and I'm supposed to go to college. I've already expressed my opinion about it, I'm not going, I'm just going to start working full time. No matter what I say, what I express to my sister, she's always been scared I'll change my mind, then get up and leave.
Six o'clock is when my mind finally slowed down, thoughts coming to a temporary hault. Aiden was awake wandering through the house looking for me, finally bumping in to me as I walked up the stairs. Emma was still asleep, but we decided to make a starbucks run without her anyway. I got the both of us ready by seven, we checked on Emma before leaving and she was still knocked out. Aiden and I made the time enjoyable, taking a ride to this towne center which had a starbucks across Aiden's favorite bagel shop. He said he wasn't feeling too well when he woke up, so I hoped a bit of bagel and a few sips of a vanilla bean frappucino would do him some good. We came back home with a bagel and hot chocolate for Emma around eight. Now she was awake and a little upset I hadn't woken her up. With Emma somewhat mad at me, and Aiden into the morning's cartoon selections, I had gone back to anxiously waiting for a phone call.
Some of my more depressing thoughts started making their way back to the front of my mind, trying to get out of them I reminded myself that any minute now I could get a call that said I won. It was a happy thought that got me in a daze of sorts, but I started hearing this buzzing. It sounded like talking after a bit then finally it was a recognizable voice.
"Eliana! Your phone is ringing!" My sister yelled at me bringing me out the daze finally. Her words actually didn't set in until I felt the vibration in my pocket. I fumbled trying to get it out. Damn skinny jeans.
"Hello?" I answered, hearing the anxiety laced in my voice.
"Hi, am I speaking to Eliana Brooks?" A hesistant male voice asked. You can tell he was struggling a bit with my name.
"Yes, this is she. May I ask who I'm speaking to?" I figured I should keep proffessional about this, especially if it wasn't the station. I can't just act giddy.
"Great! My name is Alexander Fisher. I'm calling on behalf of the 69.7 radio station, about your submission to the One Direction contest. Would it be possible for you to come down to the station sometime this afternoon? We have some paperwork for you to fill out in case your video is chosen as the winner." I don't know if it was just me but I hear yelling in the background, then again I wasn't really paying attention, once I realized the purpose of the call.
"Yes, of course. Would twelve be alright?"
"That would be great. Thank you for your time, we'll be looking forward to seeing you this afternoon Ms.Brooks." He just sounded annoyed now.
"Thanks.." I ended the call then held my phone to my chest. The anxiety in my voice had turned to pure excitement. This was getting real, I mean, I must have a video in the top fifty or something. There's no way they could be doing this with every submission. I actually have a chance.
