The time of fun is over. Life returns to it's original state.
No more booze or turkey, eating meals together. Enjoying ourselves is no longer on the list.Yesterday I found out this year is going to be no better than the last, or the one before that.
We have lost contact with our sister coven in Paris. I am going to investigate the issue.Yesterday I packed my bag and set out for the train. I do not have trouble traveling, for we do not wear black robes or scary masks, we do not have red eyes or sharp fangs. We're just like you, truly. Your neighbour, mother, your high school teacher and even your friendly old baker could be one of us. Anthony wanted to join me on my trip to Paris, but there should always be one of us to look after the others. When I'm not around, Anthony's in charge. He's not always the kindest though, I once had a mission to England, and when I returned and tucked Petra in bed I noticed she had a burn mark on her left thigh. It didn't take much to figure out the brother with the gift of Pyrokinesis had done this. Anthony and I had a terrible fight that night, but we need to stick together. We cannot afford to lose eachother. After all, there's no family without some drama, right?
I need to be careful with losing my temper. Our gifts also have their downsides. We cannot always control them. On a hot summer day we were picknicking in a field, Cornelius was but 5 years old back then.
Oh, those days. Petra had made birds near us sing happy tunes by using her mind control and Anthony roasted our food with a bit of heat manipulation. We did not know Cornelius' power back then. He was chasing after a butterfly when he suddenly tripped over a root and fell. At first he started to cry. I tried to run to him but the mere sight of him held me back. He grew dangerously pale, and his eyes grew dim and dark and when sadness ended, anger came. He started throwing a tantrum, and screeched. the grass in a circle around him started to wither and turned brown and black. The birds that Petra was controlling stopped singing. Some fell out of the tree. Dead. Nick and Adam started running, and anthony grabbed a crying Petra to get them out of Cornelius' range. I stood there, stopped at half a step and just stood there, staring at Cornelius with wide eyes. Cornelius stared at the tree and the leaves started to hang and the trunk started to rot. The bodies of the birds had decomposed and and the only evidence left behind were the bones. I get a hold of myself and run towards Cornelius, pressing him tightly against my body as I try to calm him with sweet words. It worked. He started sobbing again. Colour returns to his white skin, and his eyes regain their natural grey colour. I felt weak, like all my youth and my lifeforce had been stolen. That's when I lost conciousness.Cornelius hasn't cried once since that day. When he realised what his powers could do, he got scared of himself, and locks himself up whenever he feels sad or angry.
There was a witness that day. The unlucky woman was walking in the park with a baby in a stroller and had seen what Cornelius had done. Anthony brought our siblings home, put me inside of a bed and silently left. He didn't come back for a week. And when he finally did, his eyes were red, and he had deep dark circles under his eyes. He had cried. A lot. He didn't speak a word, but i knew something had changed. He never fully recovered. I heard Nick started to cry in another room. He must've heard Anthony's thoughts, and when i entered Nick's chambers, Adam was trying to comfort him. Adam looked at me, whispered something in Nick's ear and dissapeared in the shadows. I had a long talk with Adam that night. Being clairvoyant is a curse. He had seen how Anthony intruded the young woman's house, how she was bathing her baby, playing with a rubber ducky and laughed when her baby splashed some water over her when she heard the door behind her squeeack. She turned around and gasped edibly. She looked at Anthony in a confused way. Her eyes widened when she realised she had seen him at the park. Anthony gave her a push, with a short yell of surprise she fell backwards in the tub. Adam could feel her fear, she wasn't scared for herself, but for her baby. She picked the baby in her arms and tried to protect her child with her body. Anthony didn't say a word and with a gestion of his hand, the water to raise temperature. The mother screamed, tried to stand up but slipped, falling in the now boiling hot water. Her baby cried for a while, but the screams and cries of his mother were louder. She tried to hold her baby out of the water but failed. Adam cannot stop visions. When it happens, his eyes turn away and he collapses, only to wake up a few seconds later, but for him those few seconds could mean minutes or even hours. Adam had seen the blisters on their bodies, the swollen pink colour of their skin. But what terrified him most of all was Anthony's grin, lighted by the house he had set on fire before he left.I couldn't say anything but : "Anthony did was what best for this family."
I will never forget the look Adam gave me as he burst out of the room looking for Nick.
The train stops, I put the dark memory away and get out.
It's time to find out what happened to our friends in Paris.
