Dear Future Me,
Remember to forget the days when you would change the pronouns in your love letters from her to him
Remember to forget the day you showed those unedited love letters to your grandmother, and remember to forget the forced smile and stare of disdain
Remember to forget when you slipped up in front of Auntie and she loudly whispered, "She's too pretty to be gay"
Remember when coming out felt equivalent to seeing low flying planes in New York? Forget that too
Remember to forget the bubbling of guilt and disgust in the pit of your stomach when you realized you'd been staring at a girl's backside longer than necessary
Remember to forget the lying and the crying and the exasperation and the frustration, remember to forget it all
Don't forget to remember the day your eyes lit with hope and brimmed with tears when Uncle said he was there for you
Don't forget to remember the times when your sister would call you "gay" with affection laced in her voice
Remember to forget the darkness suffocating you, but don't forget to remember the light seeping through the cracks
Remember to forget the mold they tried to fit you in, but don't forget to remember me
Sincerely,
15 year old you
