Clockworks, a small and secluded town on the outskirts of Bismark, North Dakota. I would have to say that it is, in a word, different. We live in a city where machines are our everything.

I walked around the park near my house admiring the blue sky and being chilled by the cold October air. I pulled my black leather jacket closer to me as a cold wind blew by. Tall walls were visible in the distance. A few kids were playing in the grass laughing and having fun, being young. I kicked a stray rock in the path which I was walking down.

"Hey! Gimme that flower!" one of the little girls yelled.

"Whaddya gonna do about it?" a little boy retorted.

The little girl screamed really loud. Her voice screeching hitting levels of decibals I didn't even know existed. I covered my ears, but that didn't work. I broke out into a run and headed home. My boots hitting the concrete creating a less than pleasing sound.

"One more turn," I told my self.

I turned right at a corner and left at another before bolting through my front door. I ran up the stairs my ears still ringing from the little girl's deafing scream. I crashed on the bed in my room, my ears in a lot of pain.

"She... had... to... be... one of them" I whispered. "Only a Gearframe can scream that loud and make me wince this hard. AARRGG" I screamed.

My mother came racing up the stairs when she heard my scream. "Belle, sweetie, what's wrong?" she cried.

"I... was... in... the middle of a scream attack," I said.

        "Oh no! Are you alright?"

"Does it look like I'm alright?!"

"I guess not," she replied leaving me alone in my room.

"She proably went to the garden" I thought out loud.

The ringing finally stopped and I could hear normally again. My ears hurt but I could manage. I sat up. These things, "Gearframes" are machines designed to look like humans. They have all the functions and emotions of a human and they are virtually identical to us. The only way to tell them apart from us is by their screams. Their screams are deafing if you are too close. I barely got away from that one scream attack; had I stayed longer I woulda lost my hearing.

Our family has a robot, not a Gearframe, mind you. We call him "Peacekeeper" because he ends the fights I have with my mom. "Belle - Rose - Marquet, incoming message from: Mary - Alice - Marquet." Peacekeeper said. That message said to turn on the tv. I grabbed the remote from my wood end table and I turned the tv on. The founder of Clockworks appeared. His eyes were in alarm and his thin moustache (modled like clock hands pointing to 9 and 3 o'clock) twitched angrilly.

"Citizens of Clockworks, I have a dire announcement," he said
