CHAPTER 1

I was jerked awake as the car hit a large bump in a road construction zone.

"Shit! mom." I said grumpily

She just rolled her eyes at me. We were on the way to my dad's. The perfect place to dump me while she toured Europe for a whole year with her rich boyfriend.

"You excited?" she said hopefully

"Excited to visit France and England. Maybe Germany. Oh wait... that's you."

"C'mon Lex, don't make this hard on me."

"Your right, why should it be hard for you to ditch me with your one night stand 17 years ago that accidentally became my father?" I spat sarcastically.

"Just give it a chance hun. you don't even know him."

"Neither do you." That one hit home. The rest of the ride was silent, which made the hour feel like four. I was sorry for hurting her feelings but I was too prideful to admit it. We were finally here.

Jerry was a successful contracter with a big house. The way my mom talked about him when I was little made him seem like a family guy so it never made sense to me why he stayed single and decided to live in a place like Atlantic Beach, South Carolina. Quite a step down from New York City. There were only about a thousand people hiding out in that crack of SC. Well now A thousand and one.

"Hi sweety!" My father chirped as he skipped down the curved staircase infront of his "not so little" home

I glanced his way and rolled my eyes. Resistantly, I got out of the car grabbing my backpack. I figured he would be happy to get the other six bags, four boxes and a pillow. I have to hand it to the guy, he was a damn good contracter, and had a damn nice house. Maybe this year would go by faster than I had assumed.

The house was amazing. The driveway was made completely of stone and it went all the way to the base of the stairs. There were two stairways curving around the greenery in the middle. the porch was just a half circle with pillars holding up the balcony above it.The doors were big and white with frosted glass rectangles through them and on the sides. I reached for the sleek shiny doorknob but just as I was about to touch it the door swung open and I found myself face to face with a large older woman in a calf-length uncomfortable looking dress. We were awkwardly close for a long moment. I spun around slowly and looked at Jerry.

"Who the hell is this?" I said, a little too loud. I could feel the woman's hot heavy breath on the back of my neck as if she was daring me to turn around.

"That is the maid, Millie" Jerry said peaking out from behind a large box of my belongings.

I twisted, ducked, and gracefully maneuvered past Millies cold stare and husky features. I was inside.

A large white staircase was on the right and a huge open livingroom on the left, decorated with white furniture and a few glass tables surrounding a large marble fireplace. I walked through the livingroom which led into what I assumed was the real one. It had another marble fireplace in the center and above it was possibly the biggest TV I have ever seen. All the furniture was black leather with wooden end tables. The hard wood floor was mostly coverd by a large area rug with some old guitar player guy on it. This livingroom led into the kitchen which, surprise, surprise, was massive. Black granite countertops and grey cabinetry were a beautiful combination. That and all the stainless steel appliances made this a pretty legit kitchen. not to mention the pantry was bigger than my old room, and filled with food. The table in the diningroom to the left looked like it could easily sit fifteen people. It made me a little sad thinking of how rarely he must use it. The kitchen led to yet another livingroom type deal. this one was smaller and didn't have a fireplace but was still well equipped with black leather furniture and a huge flatscreen. The next room I assumed was his. It had a king sized bed and another TV. I'm thinking this guy likes his sports, judging from all the posters in his room. His bathroom was pretty sweet. The huge tub had jets and lights and the rainfall shower had a radio in it. I turned around and flinched in surprise.
