A series of laughs broke out of my mouth. I looked at Colton through my laughing but he looked serious. "Tell me this is some lame excuse of a pickup line."
The faintest smile danced on his lips. "I think I could come up with a better one than that."
"So you want me to date you?" He nodded. "Alright, I'm leaving." I spun around but he quickly caught my forearm. I turned slightly to look at his large hand as it shot warmth up my arm.
"Wait. Let me explain." His voice was deep and I couldn't shake off that pleading voice.
I sighed and turned back to him. Damn him for being hot. "You have a minute to convince me. Start talking," I said impatiently, taking another sip of the drink. It was really good.
A smirk lit up the shadows of his face. "Someone's a little crabby. Anyway, so yesterday I was talking to my friend Chloe about the weekend and it slipped that I was going out. When she asked where, I panicked. The boys and I had planned a 'guys night'-"
"Wait. Guys have guys nights too?" I interrupted.
"Yeah. Well we don't do the whole gossip and pillow fight thing that girls do, but that's not the point. Anyways, I knew she'd want to tag along and the guys are always complaining that she hangs around during our 'guy time' so I said I had a date."
"So? What's the problem?"
"You're really impatient," he mused. "I was getting there. So I was having a good time when I get a heads up that she's here. She saw Harry and asked him about me and of course the half-brain idiot told her that I was here too. So I have about 2 minutes left before she spots me and finds out I lied to her, unless you help me."
"By pretending to be your date," I finished.
"Exactly."
I eyed him but he was only radiating honesty. I guess that's explains why Harry is playing wingman.
"Do you know how stupid that sounds?"
"Yes."
I furrowed my eyebrows, glancing down to check that I wasn't wearing my I'm with stupid T-shirt. Nope, it was all him.
"Why me? There are plenty of other girls in here that would be happy to help you out."
"But do you see the girls in here? You're much better company."
"What's wrong with them?" I was confused. They looked pretty normal to me.
He shook his head. "Look closer. See the brunette over there?" He pointed to a girl in a skimpy blue dress. "She's been staring me down all night. She'd jump at the chance to lay her hands on this sexy body of mine and I have more self respect than to be taken advantage of. You know, sometimes being this irresistible is a curse."
I rolled my eyes at that and glanced over. She was staring daggers into me like I had killed a puppy. Jeez. You can have him, woman.
"Ms. Long Legs in red?" Colton continued. "She's so drunk she's talking to a wall. After I heard her ask it where Humpty Dumpty was, I made a run for it."
