PROLOGUE

Fait and Hope are twins, they are 15 years old, and they've been living in Detroit since age two, with their Foster mother, Betty. Fait is the older twin by five minutes but somehow ended up being the shorter twin, standing at 5'0 even while her sister Hope is 5'4, not that much shorter but being the oldest of the two it's definitely comes up. They had a mocha color to their complexion and were pretty fit because the sports they occasionally got into. Their hair is kinky curly between a 4b-4c, to their knowledge they were just black. They're eyes are brown but when in the light they seem to be a pretty hazel color, especially in the summertime, were you can really see them.

Fait and Hope were once inseparable but as they got older they seemed to grow apart. Fait, was the more popular and outgoing one, she liked to party, hang with friends, and just do anything under the sun so that she didn't have to be home. The only thing is, she hung around bad people and took on the influences of others, very easily. But Fait always stood as her own person, if she really didn't want to, she wouldn't, but most times she didn't want to miss out on the fun. Especially if everyone else was doing it.

At the age of 13 Fait was really getting into bad things, she had got involved with this guy, James. He wasn't the best kid in the neighborhood. He was two years older than her but failed twice so they were in the same grade. But James definitely acted his age. He of course hung out with older people and they got into stuff that Fait definitely shouldn't have been apart of. They got her into smoking weed here and there, and drinking more than a little. She partied with them and everything, of course she had to keep up appearances with her new boo. James was known around because he was tapped in. His dad was the plug for all the plugs so nothing came past him, and neither of his boys. He had four sons and all of them had their hand in the family business. If you were from around you definitely knew them and most importantly you knew not to fuck with them. Your favorite cousin will end up with they shoes thrown over a power line.

Part of dealing with James was keeping up with all the madness. He barely was in school but he a person in every class that kept up with his assignments and homework for him. When he was in school he'd slide into classes he wasn't supposed to be in just to hang with friends luckily there was at least one sub somewhere in the building. Outside of school him and Fait were always riding around, he made his sales with her, he hung with the boys with her, modern day Bonnie and Clyde. Once they found each other it was no tearing them apart.

Hope, on the other hand was a goodie two shoes, more of a book smart girl while Fait was streets smart. She was also popular because she was a cheerleader. She wasn't mean, she never had anything bad to say, to peoples faces that is, but when she was with Fait she talked about everyone and their mother. Fait hated the fact that she was more liked than her, and she was so sweet. Fait was always the angry type because she thought you shouldn't be happy living in a Foster home, she thought she wasn't good enough. Hope got all of the attention and Fait always seemed jealous but in Hope's eyes, she envied her sister, because she was her big sister and tended to be more outspoken than her and she was more of a, hermit crab when it came to sticking up for herself.

Hope stayed stuck in the book as opposed to her sister. Along with cheerleading she was on student council and was the chairman of a school book club, guess who started it? Hope loves to read, it's her favorite outlet, with that and all her extracurriculars she didn't have to be home so much. It also gave her the much needed escape from what her life had grown to be. A constant struggle between keeping everything together and making it look like you have it all together. No one knew Fait and Hope were foster children and they always wanted to keep it that way. From picking a school two bus stations away from their home so no one had to know where they lived, to them never inviting anyone over or much talk about their home life. Fait and Hope did have a story for if anyone asked. They lived far away because their mom worked closer to their but wanted them to go to a really good school. It wasn't all peaches in cream, they did say their father was an alcoholic, can't be too perfect, but they just lived with their mom. Their father was far away maybe getting himself together, maybe dead, who knew? As far as anyone knew he was somewhere and their mom had a glamorous job. Fait and Hope would do odd jobs for their neighbors to help get money so they could be just a fresh as everyone else for school. They'd stack up all summer and cash out right before the year started so they'd have all new and clean clothes and the newest brands. Trust they worked their butts off. From babysitting, to hedge trimming they could do it all, you just had to ask.
