Today was Christmas, December, 25, 1990 in the small city of Jasper, Minnesota where a young man by the name of Matt was exploring an older part of town that was battling decay. A place known as "The lab of the future" was his destination.
Ten years ago there was a slight failure in the experiment known as THE WARP, the test became unstable and caved in on itself creating a black hole destroying the factory. Matt, having experience in the field of architecture, did not believe that the sudden collapse of the building was an accident, he wanted facts.
"I need to find the basement..." he mumbled to himself. Finding the functioning floor plan console created a small spark of hope. "Ah ha!" Exclaimed Matt running his hand over the digital copy of blueprints. Further examination of the plans told him that all three of the upper floors where inaccessible. The lower levels however, where not shown.
The basement, unlike the floors above, survived the disaster with only a few scattered papers. Knowing that somewhere in the paper carnage would be his answer, he decided to contact his friend Victoria who had "mastered" the art of paper sorting ."Hey Vici would you mind helping me organize some papers?" Asked Matt while kicking an overturned filling cabinet out of the way. "Alright but only for a few hours, where are you?" responded Victoria "At the old lab," he mischievously retorted.
"What?!" Burst Victoria "What in the world are you doing there?!" Victoria with her anger quickly turning to concern. "Nothing to perilous, just satisfying some curiosity." he replied, slightly enjoying Victorias concern for his safety. "Fine i'll be right over, but don't touch anything till I get there OK?" Said Victoria whilst walking out of her house to her parked car.
"Ok see you soon." Responded Matt before hanging up. Completely disregarding her advice, he started to force open the nearest thing to him. It happened to be an old, rusted, elevator shaft. Having opened one of the doors he spotted the elevator some floors below. Matt hating his forgetfulness, wished he had brought his trusty, crack powered flashlight to explore the darker corners of the basement. While he waited for Victoria to arrive, he straitened out some of the desks searching for some sort of clue to how THE WARP experiment took its dramatic downfall.
His original need to investigate the building was not to satisfy his curiosity, or check out the foundation, but because he was wanted to uncover what the scientists found. He believed they found the secret to time travel. Thinking of time travel brought back the memories of the Dr. Who shows he watched as a kid.
Remembering the chameleon feature on the TARDIS ( Time And Relative Dimensions In Space) he set about finding anything that could possibly be the mythical time machine. Searching the dusty floor for clues to he spotted a surprisingly shiny piece of what appeared to be steel. Picking it up he realized it was a key radiating heat.
Herring the shift in settlement nearby , he became evermore curious to what was hiding below. "What are you doing here?" interrogated Victoria, startling him into dropping the key into his jean pocket. "Just looking through whats left of the place," replied Matt when he realized its was Victoria who spoke not some supernatural being.
"Well what did you call me to do?" questioned Victoria eyeing the old elevator shaft. "Well I was hoping that you could could search some of those desks for clues," answered Matt, choosing his words carefully. "Clues to what exactly?" questioned Victoria as a slight grin appeared on her face.
"Well... I don't know some sort of... just let me know when you find something of great importance." replied Matt, who was obviously not telling her the full story. Victoria being almost like a older sister enjoyed seeing him uncomfortable. "This is about The Warp right?" Pestered Victoria. "So what if it is?" Replied Matt as he started searching the closest next to the nearest desk.
"It is! I knew it" sang Victoria dancing around the now blushing Matt. "Hold on," he whispered, pausing his search and the dancing Victoria. "Whats was that?" continued Matt when Victoria stopped. Victoria just now noticing the growing hum below them, she showed a look of puzzlement as they both recall that this structure had long since been abandoned.
