I ran across the battle field. Visibility was low from the smog and my lungs burned from ash that was blown in the winds from burning bases miles away. I was running for my own base. I was out on a raid mission, alone, and I got a distress call from Alex, my lieutenant. Being out in the open alone is dangerous, especially in this smog. They can see through it easily, we can't. They come up behind you and they kill you, or capture you and dissect you.
I could easily see my base and Alex up in the watch tower. "Glad to see ya, Vic!" he shouted. "I could say the same to you, Alex!" I shouted back at him. I was about 100 yards from the base when it hit me. Metal bindings spiraled around me and I fell to the ground. "Victoria!" I heard Alex shout from the tower.
I struggled against my bindings. These particular traps are a signature of the Hokaku. The Hokaku are usually the ones who take live captives or hide among us and takes us out. They look just like us, except they have heightened intelligence, strength, and agility. Basically humans on steroids, but three times as intense.
I could see the Hokaku approaching and I began to panic. Why the heck isn't Alex here to save me yet? The Hokaku kept getting closer by the second, and the closer they got, the more afraid I became. I can't get get killed or captured. I can't afford to. Only a couple seconds later the Hokaku were practically standing over me. I began to realize it might be over aleady.
Suddenly the Hokaku fell over dead. "Sorry about the scare Vic." Alex said as he strode over to me. "Alex! I swear to god! What took you so long?!" I shouted at him. "Heh.... That's a funny story." He said, looking a bit embarrassed. "Alex." I said, trying to get him to answer. "I couldn't find my gun..." He said with a goofy smile on his face. "Alex, why wasn't it with you in the watch tower?" I ingterrogated. "I don't know." he replied. I let out an exasperated sigh. "Can you just get these restraints?" I gave Alex a rock hard stare. "I'll try my best. We actually haven't saved anyone from the Hokaku before... You might be stuck like that forever!" He laughed when he said forever. "Shut up, Alex." I said. He picked me up to carry me back to the base.
"You know, it's kind of odd..." Alex said. "What do you mean? What's odd?" I asked him. He seemed like something was troubling him. "That was the thirtieth attack from Hokaku today, and they weren't the only ones. We're a small base and we're usually ignored because we don't cause much harm." Alex said as he entered the base. "Wait, the thirtieth! Holy crap, Alex!" I exclaimed. Alex set me down on a table in our armory. He walked around, looking for something to get the metal restraints off. "I know!" He said as he scrambled about, "Something is rallying up the enemy forces." I thought of scenarios of what's happening out there with the enemy. "Its probably nothing major. It will blow over." I said. Little did I know that I was completely wrong.A/N
So Hokaku is Japanese for capture, and I thought it fit the profile, so yeah. And no, I don't overuse the name Alex.
