Run.
That's all I was thinking right now.
Sharp whispers sounding so close but coming from so far.
"Aelin! Aelin!"
"You can't run forever"
This forest is too dark and there is too many trees to see where the whispers are coming from, but I need to find a way out.
I hear a twig snap behind me, the whispers instantly stop.
Do I dare look?
I whip my head around just fast enough to see a tall black shadow shoot past a tree in the distance.
My eyes open wide in fear and my body turns cold, pushing myself harder to run faster to safety.
I'm running out of energy.
But I only have a dagger for protection.
This can't be happening right now.
How did I even get here?
Should I stay and fight or run and hide?
A tear falls down my cheek but there is no time to cry.
I hear rustling in the bushes from not far behind, my instant reaction is to pull out my dagger.
Panting, I stop trying to catch my breath gripping my dagger tightly.
I brush my long hair behind my head and look around for whatever is chasing me.
I heard another noise behind me making my heart stop.
Then all of a sudden a loud shrieking sound fills my ears, it sounds like nothing I have ever heard before.
My knees buckle and I hit the ground with a thud.
I shut my eyes tight and try to block out the sound with my hands.
Tears stream down my cheeks while I wait for the sound to stop.
Then suddenly it stops.
I peak through my eyelids to see a tall black shadow moving straight for me.
