"Harry, where are you?" Louis asked in Gluphoma, our language. I had been sitting outside of our home we shared together, staring up at our red sky.
"Out here." I answered. He soon found me and sat where I was sitting. I looked at him. We didn't look like humans. We had purple skin, four eyes that seemed to be like black holes, and we were very skinny, that was the result of having just bones. We didn't have hair, which I've always wanted. If I had hair I'd always wondered if it would be soft, just like Martha's. Stop Harry! Don't think about Martha, she's the past.
"You alright there? You seem as if you're on another planet." Louis laughed at me. I smiled, shaking my bald head.
"I'm just thinking about how we're going to save Earth. We don't have a lot of time left." I said, looking down at my hands. They were long and bony.
"Don't worry, I promise you we will find a way to make them not want to destroy earth." he reassured me. I stood up and looked at him.
"They won't! They are very determined to capture the humans and make slaves of them, then destroy the planet, but that's not right." I said, turning to walk back into our home.
"Is this about Martha?" he asked suddenly.
I stopped to look at him angrily. He knew how I felt about that subject. "Drop it." I hissed.
He shook his head at me. "You have to stop Harry, it wasn't your fault." and with that, he walked back into our home. I sighed as I followed him in. That wasn't my favorite subject to talk about and he knew that.
I saw his mate, Eleanor, walking into the door. She was beautiful, I must admit. She was a bit shorter and her voice was female sounding, that was how the females and males were distinguished, along with the fact they looked feminine.
"Hey Eleanor." I greeted. She smiled. She was lucky that she could do that. Females aren't allowed to do that if they have a mate. Louis hated the rules and didn't listen to them, so Eleanor was lucky.
"How are you Harold?" she asked, using my full name.
I cringed at the sound of it. "Grr, you know I hate my full name!" I mumbled. She laughed at my comment, another thing females can't do.
"El says that her parents want to have me over for dinner and I can't refuse, since they're my mate's parents." Louis said. I nodded and watched as they walked out the door, hand in hand. On earth, people would think that was a romantic gesture but here, it shows ownership of the female, so no male could take her away.
I sighed as I sat down on a chair, watching the wall. I had nothing to do and I don't have a mate so I was alone and bored. "You had a mate." my conscience reminded me. I shook my head roughly, trying to get rid of that thought.
Had.
I had a mate.
Past tense.
This is ridiculous, I needed to forget the past. I wasn't doing this for her, I was doing it to save my favorite species ever. I left a note on the table for Louis, got up off the chair and proceeded to the door. If earth was truly going to be destroyed, I wanted to go and see them, one final time to say goodbye. And pay respects to Martha's grave.
