Abigail walked into school as she usually did with her dark hot chocolate in one hand and her school work in the other. Unlike her peers around her, Abigail was well-rested every day and got the mandatory 9 hours of sleep every night. She was classified as the "good girl" in her high school, everyone knew who she was. She was captain of the varsity dance team, president of the debate team and treasurer of her senior class. Yet, she still managed to keep an A average in all of her classes. She thought she had a set future but she was wrong.
Abigail was walking down the hallway when she heard someone shout her name."Hey Abigail, wait up!" It was Derek, one of her close friends in her small group. He scurried to catch up with her then said; "so I know you finished the Algebra 2 homework. Mind sharing it with me?" He rubbed the back of his neck with his hand and leaned against the locker next to hers.
" Derek I cannot keep giving you my homework." Abigail had an annoyed tone of voice. She opened her locker and set the lock inside. She took one last big gulp to finish her hot chocolate.
"Come Abi, I need you I can't get another zero on a homework assignment." Derek plead.
Abigail paused a moment, looked into his eyes. They were a light hazel, with little specks of green. She couldn't resist."Fine! But you owe me." She reached into the folder that was in her arm and handed the homework to Derek.
"Big time!" He started to walk away, then he turned around and asked; "Are we still on for the movies after school?"
" Yes, I already have the tickets," She responds. She pulled out the tickets for the movie they were going to see and stuck them to the inside of her locker with a magnet. Abigail was always prepared.
Abigail closed her locker and walked down the hall to get to her first class. She had AP chemistry, it was her favorite class. As she walked into the classroom she noticed a strange boy.
"Hello, who are you?" Abigail asked him as she set down her bag.
"Who are you?" He asked in a shrewd tone.
"I asked you first." Abigail leaned against the table in front of him.
"I just moved here," He responded.
"That wasn't my question, who are you?" She had a grin on her face.
"My name is Joshua Steele and who are you?" He asked.
"My name is Abigail Waldorf." She disclosed.
"Pretty name, Abigail." Joshua leaned back in his chair and crossed his arm.
"So tell me, Joshua. Where are you from?" Abigail pulled out a chair and sat down across from him.
"Now, if I told you that. I would have to kill you." He leaned forward and rested his arms on the table. He had a soft, steady tone in his voice and looked into her eyes. Without blinking, he asked;
"So, what's your story, Abigail? Why are you here in class fifteen minutes early, when you could be hanging out with your friends?"
"Well, now that is just not fair. What makes you think I am willing to share my story if you are not willing to share yours?" Abigail cocked her head and waited for a response.
"Well, like I said. If I told you, I would have to kill you."
"Haha, You think you are clever. Do you not?"
"Do you always speak really proper?"
"Very proper and yes I do."
Joshua snickered and leaned back in his chair.
"So, Why are you here in class so early? Don't teens usually hate school?" He asked her in a soothing tone.
"Are you saying you are not a teen?" Abigail asked him.
"Well, I'm not a normal teen."
"And neither am I," Abigail responded.
"Are you never going to answer my question directly?" Joshua questioned.
"I act formal, but I do like to play games." Abigail jested.
* RING*
"Well, it looks like our time is up. Let the game of life begin." He quipped.
Abigail stood up and placed the chair back in its original position.
"May the best player win," Abigail responded.
