"Good morning, Dad! Any post?" I asked as I approached the breakfast table, still wearing my pajamas. My red curly hair bounced behind me.

"There might be something that came for you," Sirius said, winking, his dark eyes twinkling in the light streaming in from the window. He handed me a letter from the pile at the end of the table. The green ink was extremely familiar to not just me, but my father too.

I ripped open the envelope, excited to see the new books I needed for my 5th year at Hogwarts. A piece of metal fell out, bouncing off my toes onto the floor. Excitedly, I picked it up off the dirty floor, examining the badge. I recognized it instantly.

"OMG, Dad, I've been made a prefect!" I screamed, bouncing up and down where I stood. I shoved the badge in his face, too excited to even remotely care if I was being slightly disrespectful.

My dad grinned up at me, and said, "I think this calls for some butterbeer! Congratulations!" He embraced me in a familiar warm hug, immediately calming me down. "Kreacher!" Sirius called, summoning our house elf. "Some butterbeer, please!"

With a crack, Kreacher appeared at once. "As you wish, Master Sirius." Kreacher nodded to me, saying politely, "Master Emma." Kreacher vanished again with another loud crack.

I pinned the shining prefect badge to my chest, suddenly feeling proud. Grabbing a piece of toast, I quickly scurried up to my room, calling out to my dad, "I'm writing to all my friends! Be back soon!"

As I approached Lilly, my snowy owl, she gave a delighted hoot and fluttered her wings. She had the appearance of just coming back from a morning hunt.

"Hello, Lilly," I cooed, reaching out to stroke her feathers. She was name after my mother. Lilly gave an appreciative click of her beak.

I sat down on my bed, getting some parchment and a quill to write my letters. I copied the same letter to each Hermione, Ginny, Ron, Cho, Fred, George, and my half brother, Harry.

Me and Harry had the same mother. Lily Evans had conceived a child to both James Potter and my father, Sirius Black. Before James and Lily had gotten married, Lily confessed to James, pleading forgiveness. When they died, however, Harry was sent to his aunt and uncles home. I continued living with my father. Sirius was not proud of his betrayal to his best friend. Ever since then, Sirius has been living quietly with me in Number 12 Grimmauld Place.

Shaking the memory from my head, I returned to my letter. It looked something like this:

Hello!

Have you gotten your Hogwarts letter yet? I have, and guess what! I've been made a prefect! How are the summer holidays? Mine has been decent, I suppose. Father and Kreacher are doing well. You should come meet me in Diagon Alley next Wednesday! See you soon!

With Love,

Emma

I scribble the last letter down, sealed them all in turn, and attached them to Lilly's foot.

"Take these to my friends, okay?" I told Lilly, kissing her head softly before letting her go.

I stood at the window, watching Lilly disappear from sight. Despite the return of Voldemort, I was happy. Soon, I would start another year of adventure at Hogwarts.
