[Kat is seen sleeping in a darkened room. The dull sound of cars and other hover vehicles are heard zooming and humming outside. All is dark and quiet until an android storms in, scaring Kat out of her sleep.]
Kat: [sits up quickly] Jesus Christ!
Android: [in a mechanical yet friendly voice. The mechanical parts are heard clanking and grinding as it moves its jaw.] I am terribly sorry to wake you, Katherine.
Kat: [grouchy. Her hair is a mess and she sighs and rubs her forehead.] What is it? [Looks at her holographic clock] It's 7:30 in the morning.
Android: [holds out its metallic hand, a holo-message chip is seen.] An important message has arrived for you... and you only.
[Kat groans and claps her hands together, making the lights turn on, revealing a neat and expansive room. Kat gets up out of bed, walks to the android, and takes the chip out of its hand.]
Kat: Thank you.
Android: [bows its head slightly] You are welcome. Your mother and father are waiting downstairs.
Kat: [walks to her desk, still examining the chip.] Tell them I will be down in a minute.
Android: Of course, ma'am. I will prepare breakfast as well.
Kat: [looks at the android with a friendly face] Thank you.
Android: Of course. [Leaves the room. The door automatically shuts as it leaves.]
[Kat sits down and further examines the chip and sticks it into a hologram projector. The projector turns on and emits a small screen. A letter is seen sprawled on it.]
Kat: [reading] "Katherine Lee Mayor, we are happy to notify you that you have been accepted into the Archon Military Academy. We are also notifying you that you eligible to join one of the Elite Squads."
[Kat stops reading and leans back in the chair, still processing the information she was given. Then she suddenly jumps up excitedly.]
Kat: [her face lights up with excitement] Archon has accepted me?! AND I'm picked to become one of the Elite Squads!? [Squeals excitedly].
[She goes back to reading]
Kat: "Archon is one of the best military academies the Dominion has to offer. It is also one of the toughest schools in the military. Should you accept this invitation you will endure the toughest military training. Are you willing to join?"
[Kat sits there for a moment to think about her decision. The words "yes" or "no" pop up on the holoscreen. She eyeballs the words for a moment then clicks "yes". A small "ding!" noise is heard and words appear on screen that read " Congratulations! Welcome to Archon Academy!". More words appear below that reads " A transport will arrive at your location at 0900 to escort you to Luna Spaceport." Kat quickly jumps up and gets into a shower-like area. A blurry forcefield abstructs her body as she strips down and a bright blue line scans her horizontally and vertically. A drawer opens in front of her and she grabs and puts on a fresh set of clothes. The forcefield deactivates and she darts out of her room. She slides on the stairs guardrail and enters the kitchen. Her parents, Noveah and David, greet her as the android makes breakfast. David is reading a holographic newspaper while Noveah approaches Kat, hiding something behind her back.]
Noveah: [with a warm smile] Good morning!
Kat: [smiles] Morning! Mom I got something to tell yo-
Noveah: [grins] I already know! That's why we're giving you this! [She holds out her hands and reveals a black leather jacket with the Dominion Navy insignia on the back of it.] Grandpa wanted you to have it when you signed up.
