Hey people this is a review that I am reviewing, called How I Live Now. If you have read it, respond and tell me if you liked it or not.
An unquestionably fantastic author, Meg Rosoff's "How I Live Now" has won many hearts due to the style she uses and her storylines. Winning at least three notable awards, Rosoff's first ever novel has done very well in the world of writing.
Seen through the eyes of 15 year-old Daisy; the story is about Daisy sent to Britain to get away from her pregnant stepmother for a Summer to go live with her Aunty and her cousins with whom she bonds with easily. She has never met anyone like them before and as the English dreamy summer days pass, Daisy finds herself caught in a timeless bubble. It seems like the perfect summer until everything explodes. Falling in love is just the start of her troubles but then an unknown enemy attacks and war breaks out. A war that no one in the family understands or really cares about until it lands on their doorstep. This is where the perfect summer is ruined and where Daisy's life changes forever - and the world changes too.
The protagonist is a straightforward person from the big city who does not expect much in her new life in the country. The cousins, Osbert, Isaac, Edmond and lastly Piper are neglected by their working mother, so they are more peculiar than the usual. Take Isaac - he is the only one in the family who is an animal whisperer and hardly talks to humans.
What's special about this story is that the reality of war is depicted in thrilling detail despite its targeted audience. Furthermore it explores sexuality through the eyes of young teens. This book is nothing, if not honest. Interestingly the language evokes a childish tone while incorporating large vocabulary
The most likeable part of the story is how the story unravels with unexpected events continuing to shock the reader. However the inter-familial relationships is perhaps unsuitable for the targeted audience.
When it comes down to it, the book will be most alluring to the type of people who enjoy mix of both thriller and romance in their books.
