Day one

"Good morning, Larmuians," the news reporter speaks to the crowd of Sevens and Eights at the grocery store, "We are announcing 35 lucky girls for the Selection," he pauses for a brief second, "Breanna, Two, Celeste, Two, Ariella, Three," I stop paying attention. I know that they say it's at random, but it's not. They choose the famous Two's and the talented Three's for the Selection. I am half asleep, well, until my dad punches me in the shoulder. There is a picture of me on the screen. "Mackenzie, Seven." I started screaming. For the first time in history, the selection choose a Seven. But why would they? I'm a Seven, almost an Eight. I am living on the streets, and wear rags. I am always dirty, and unhealthy.

The next day, we sit in our typical street corner. My dad passes us all a cracker, we are thankful. We are thankful I was chosen to be an Elite. This would take me from being a Seven and soon an Eight- after paper work- to a Three. We all giggle while I cup my hand and wave it. "Princess Mackenzie," I laugh. My family hugs me, and we all huddle together. It is 14 degrees out, we are cold. We are thankful we aren't Eights- yet. We are thankful for everything that we have. We are thankful that I was selected. Tomorrow, I will be sat on an airplane and flown to the other side of Larmoura. I will be treated like a princess. I will be treated to 3 meals a day, instead of 3 meals a week. I will be bathed and lavished. I will be adored. I could be a One
