Ten years had passed since that night in the hospital. Will and I were together for two years before it came to an end. We had wanted different things, he wanted to go off to college and I wanted to settle down and start a family.

We were still best friends though ofcourse. I was married a year later at just nineteen years old, then came along my first child, my beautiful little girl named Molly who was now seven. Then came my second child Sam, he was nearing two.

I was happy in my cozy house with my husband and two children, it was everything I'd ever dreamed of.

One night, I was sat with Molly watching a dvd. It was ten o'clock on a Friday night and my husband, Jake was at work. I heard a small tapping noise through the baby monitor and sat up, listening carefully but just as quick as I'd heard the noise, it was gone.

I assumed it was just the tree outside, hitting the window in the breeze. I relaxed a little as the monitor was now silent. I looked down at Molly who was falling asleep against my arm and smiled.

She used to climb through that window and crawl across the branch to get to her tree house, it was only a small space between the house and the tree house but it was still to dangerous for her to crawl across so I made her promise not to do it anymore.

I looked back at the television screen to watch the film when it suddenly dawned on me that when I hadn't heard anything else on the monitor, I actually hadn't heard a single thing.

I hadn't heard the gentle snoring of my sleeping child, not even his deep breathing or a low cry. Then there was a thud from above me and I lept up from the sofa in panic and raced up the stairs.

I looked round the room to see the cot was empty. The baby monitor on the set of draws beside it had been switched off. I realised the thud I'd heard was the window being slammed shut.

I rushed over to the window and saw a tall, dark figure at the bottom of the tree, he was carrying something on his shoulder.

"Sam" I whispered as I saw the man walking towards a car parked infront of the garden. I ran downstairs and flung open the front door. The car was beginning to pull away, I tried to run after it but it soon turned the corner out of sight.

I watched the end of the street for a moment, tears running freely down my face.

"Sam!" I cried out before collapsing onto the pavement, my shoulders shook as I sobbed, my whole world was crashing down on me, I couldn't move from the spot of wich I was lying in.

After what seemed like hours, though looking at my watch later I found it had only been twenty minutes, a light flashed over my face. I looked up and was blinded by a pair of headlights. I heard the car door slam shut and the sound of footsteps coming closer.

"Rose?" I heard the whisper of a fimiliar voice. I looked towards where the voice had came from, I couldn't see who it was but I knew anyway.

"Will" I said, sobbing even more. He knelt down beside me and stroked my cheek before lifting me up from the ground.

"Let's get you inside" he said softly as he led me back into the house. I looked at the sofa as we walked into the living room, Molly was lying there, fast asleep.

"Oh god. I'm a terrible mother, I just left her. The door wasn't even locked" I said crying even harder.

"Rose your a wonderful mother. What were you doing out there?" Will asked in a soft whisper.

"They took him" I whispered, tears still rolling down my cheeks.

"Took who?" Will asked, clearly confused.

"Sam. They took Sam" I cried.

"What?! Rose, who took him?" Will asked, standing up in alarm. I looked up at him, tears drying on my face.

"I don't know" I whispered, shaking my head. Will took Molly up to bed with me following behind him.

"Put her in my bed" I said, a hard lump in my throat from all of the crying. There was no way I was leaving her side when my son had just been snatched from his own room.

It was all my fault ofcourse, I should have checked on him when I heard the noise, I should have realised the monitor was off. Will looked at me with a pained expression as he set Molly down on my bed.

"This wasn't your fault Rose" he said as though he could read my thoughts. I nodded slowly though I still blamed myself. I sat on the bed next to Molly and Will went downstairs to wait for Jake to get back from work.

I sat watching Molly sleep until I slowly dozed off myself. I was awoken aagain an hour later when Jake came in switching the light on. I blinked under the light until my husbands face came into focus.

His face was stained with tears and his eyes were red, tears formed in my own eyes from the memory of the empty cot. I stood up slowly to give Jake a hug.

"I can't believe he was taken from his own home" he whispered into my hair as he wrapped his arms around me. I snifed back the tears and held him tighter. Will called up that he would phone the police and Jake went downstairs to wait for them to arrive while I stayed sat with Molly.

Twenty minutes later I woke up, hearing mens voices downstairs. I looked across the bed to see Molly curled up in a ball, fast asleep. What would I tell her in the morning?

"May we speak with your wife sir?" I heard a strangers voice saying and realised it was the police. I gently scooped up Molly in my arms and slowly walked towards the stairs.

"Look can't you talk to her tomorrow? She's not up to talking right now" Jake said as I readched the top step.

"Well sir, we can't start looking for your son until we-" the officer started saying.

"It's ok, I'm up" I said quietly from where I was standing. The four men looked up at me, Will was sitting on the sofa next to Jake and the officer who had been speaking was stood infront of them. He had blonde hair and a small moustashe with brown eyes. The second officer was stood by the door, he had dark hair and looked much younger than the first officer.

"Do you think you could answer some questions for us miss?" the first officer spoke again. I nodded my head slowly before making my way downstairs. I answered question after question, explaining what I had been doing at the time and when I noticed him missing. I described the car and as much as I could about the man, yet it still wasn't enough.

"There's not much information for us to go on miss, but we will find your son" the officer said, I nodded but I could see the doubt in his eyes, he looked at me like he had to make sure he said the right thing incase I broke down infront of him. My eyes began to well up as Will showed the officers out.

"They're not going to find him, I didn't give them enough information" I cried.

"Rose, it's not your fault, you told them everything you knew" Will said, rushing over to hug me. Jake took Molly into his arms as I sat crying into Will's big strong chest.
