Chapter 7
“Boys please! Boys are you still there? Gianluca, Piero! Please answer.” Begged a plump woman with long dark brown hair and a kind face. She had a phone in her hand and tears stained her face.
Barbara Vitali was scared. No, not for herself why would she be scared for herself she was safe, but she wasn’t so sure about the boys she was responsible about. Well they were all legal adults, since Gianluca turned 18 she couldn’t really tell them what to do, but they respected her and she over the years learned to love them like they were family.
The boy’s were in danger of something. She wasn’t sure what, but she could still hear Gianluca and Piero talking in the distance. They spoke of taking someone ‘down’. They were arguing they did that a lot but not like this she has never heard them do it in such a harsh tone.
There was also a sound of growls it was faint, but it was definitely there. There were also some grunts from the boys.
At least it sounded like her boys. There were some yells and the sound of something heavy hitting the ground. They went on for a cuple of minutes Barbara just listened. She stopped begging for them to pick up She dubouted the boys would hear her anyway. She heard someone yell something out it sounded like Piero. She couldn’t make out what he had said there was too much noise.
After that she heard only Piero.
There were male voices, the voices didn’t sound like her boys. Suddenly gunshots rang out. Out of shock Barbara dropped her phone. The screen cracked.
“Damn Iphone!” Why did she bought this stupid thing they are so fragile. She picked up the broken phone, the screen was still lit and looked like the phone was still working. Barbara put it to her ear, hoping that she could still hear something out of it.
She heard someone with a pleasant British accent “-if you could drop the machete?’’ the voice asked.
There was a clang and a gunshot.
And the sound of someone hitting the ground.
Barbara’s phone died.
‘’You stupid peace of crap!’’ She yelled at the Iphone ” work dammit!’’ the Iphone being Iphone went black.
Barbara stared at her phone for a second. Dropped it and stepped on it. It was broken any way.
She sat down on a dear by bench, she was in airport this place was full of them. She hid her face in her hands.
What happed there? The gunshots couldn’t have been targeted at Gianluca and Piero right?
They were such good boys, who would ever want to hurt them?
Barbara had tears in her eyes how could everything go so wrong in such a short time? She saw the boys just three days ago.
*****
Before the last concert in Latin America the boys took her to dinner, they did that sometimes. They used to take Marco and Guajiro too, but that time Marco was having one of his little daytime fantasies, so he locked himself up in his van and Guajiro called in and said he was not feeling so well so I gave him a day off.
The boys were nice to me as usual they knew better than to go flirting with girls when I was around.
But I think I saw Ignazio wink at some girls who were sitting at the opposite table. I gave him s stern look and he just smiled and shrugged.
So the boys stayed at our table all evening , of course our night ended at 9 o’clock because of the last concert tomorrow which started at 8pm, but the boys had to get up for the sound check and rehearsals and those things could last for hours. After dinner we were on our way to our hotel, Piero was driving the rented car since Marco wasn’t available that day. The radio was playing an awful pop song which sounded like a dying printer mixed with hungry whale noises. The boys were singing along these printer whale sounds, the young generation I will never understand them.
