I ate my cereal slowly, the crunchyiness a happy feeling to a seven yearold.

I heard my mother scream, the sound rushing through the house to the kitchen.

ma? I looked out the window at where she stood in the yard, starring at the sky.

A seeming less wall of black fell from the sky, dots of green and white mixed with it.

I heard my father open his closet and reach for his rifle, yelling "I TOLD YOU THE KOREANS WERE COMING"

I heard thumps on the roof,my bowl of cereal dropping and I ducked under the table.

Father had always talked about this day, when the enemy would invade....

gunshots rang out and I saw my mother fall in the yard, her arms sprawled out and a pool of blood around her.

I took off,my tiny arms pumping as I ran to my mother

Ma! Ma! Ma!

her blood coated hand touched my face and pointed towards the woods.

Run,luke... run...

That was the day it all changed
