I woke up around 11:30 the next morning only because of my phone vibrating.
"Hello?" I mumbled.
"I can't fine my Boner shirt! And why are you just now waking up?" Jack greeted.
"Because our date isn't until 3," I groaned.
"It's a date?" Jack asked slyly. I could see his smirk through the phone.
"I-I guess," I stuttered,wide awake now.
"Awesome. Well, what are you wearing on our date?" Jack questioned.
"It's a surprise."
"You have not idea,do you?"
"Nope."
Jack barked in laugher,"I guess you should decide that. Meet me at Panera at 3."
Before I could say bye he hung up.
Taking a deep breath I ran to my closet. I grabbed a pair of red skinny jeans and a white Avenged Sevenfold tank top.
I curled my hair in loose curls and put on eyeliners and mascara.
After I was ready I sat in front of the TV and absentmindedly watched an old episode of Boy Meets World.
Finally at 2:30 I decided to headed to Panera.
****
"Nice shirt," Jack grinned. "Avenged Sevenfold is the shit."
I smiled and mumbled,"Thank you."
"If you shy down on me I'll kick you in the face," Jack warned.
I snorted in laughter as Jack jumped in the air and stumbled into me,"Jack stop it!"
"Don't you know running into people is the new way of saying 'hey you look really cute today?'" Jack smirked.
"So I wasn't cute yesterday?" I shot back, hoping my blush would stay subtle.
"You were sexy yesterday remember?"
"Damn you're good," I blushed.
"In more ways than one," Jack said slapping my butt.
"Jack!" I gasped.
"Are we ever going to go inside?" Jack asked as if nothing happened.
"I don't know if I want to so this anymore," I stated glaring at him.
"Because I smacked your ass? Come on Dakota, quit being such a prude," Jack snapped. "You know what? Fine,we don't have to do this date. It was stupid anyways."
"Why do you do that?" I asked taking a few steps torwards him. I wasn't the one to cause scenes in public but there's a first time for everything.
"Do what?" Jack huffed stuffing his hands in his pockets.
"You act sweet, then you say something rude or inappropriate, and then you get and attitude. Why do you do it?" I questioned.
"You're the one that overreacted. How is that my fault?" Jack asked angrily.
"Because beforehand you were being sweet and kind. You're the one that blew up first," I pointed out.
Jack turned and took a few steps away from me before coming back and getting in my face,"I'm not Prince Charming, Dakota. If you want a boy who's constantly sweet and polite then maybe I should stop trying. I'm not that."
He stared at me before straightening up, "I'm sorry."
I studied his face. It would hurt to lose him. Yes,he's rude and inappropriate but he was also sweet and caring.
"I don't want you to stop trying," I spoke quietly.
"What?" Jack asked his thick eyebrows furrowing.
"I don't want you to stop trying," I spoke louder.
Jack looked down and I could see the tips of his ears turning red,"So do you want to continue you this date?"
"I would love that," I grinned.
Jack smiled and shyly offered me his hand. I took it instantly.

"So you've been friends with Zack for 9 years and we're just now meeting you? That's fucked up," Jack complained, his colorful language causing an elderly woman to glare at him
Yeah, Zack's a little protective, " I shrugged sipping my drink.
"Why? Was he scared we would just fucking steal you or something?" Jack snorted.
The old lady turned around again and scoffed, "Young man,can you please watch your mouth?"
"I'm afraid that's impossible ma'am. My eyes can't look at my mouth," Jack smirked.
"Don't be rude with me. I'm trying to enjoy my meal and I really don't appreciate that language," the woman told him clearly annoyed.
At this point Jack had turned around in his seat,"Well, aren't you the rude one for listening in on me and my date's conversation?"
Pursing her lips the old lady stood up and stormed off.
Jack turned to me,"I would eat faster."
"Why?"
"We're about to be asked to leave," he smirked. "That was fast."
I turned to see the lady being followed by a middle aged man in a Panera uniform.
"Excuse me sir. This lady told me you were being very rude while she was eating. Is that true?" The man asked.
"Maybe," Jack turned to the woman. "But ma'am, can you remind me of the words I used. I can't seem to recall."
Her eyes widened,"I'm not repeating those nasty things!"
"Then how can you prove I said them? Or are you just opposed to the younger generation?" Jack asked tilting his head slightly.
"Nonsense! I have a granddaughter your age," the woman argued.
"I have two single friends if she's looking," Jack smiled.
"I wouldn't let Sarah near the likes of you,you bastard!" She screeched. Her mouth widened as she realized what she said.
Jack's eyes sparkled and he turned and smiled kindly as the worker,"Sir,obviously I'm not causing the problem here. If you don't mind I'd like to return to my date."
The worker nodded, "Of course. As for you ma'am I'm going to have to ask you to leave."
I held in my laughter until she was escorted away,"That was amazing."
Jack shook his head, "The language of some people." His lips twitched before he joined me in laughter.
****
"I had fun," Jack commented as we walked up to my apartment.
"I did too," I grinned digging for my keys.
"Really?" Jack asked quietly.
I turned to him, "Yes really. Why do you think I wouldn't?"
"I dunno," he shrugged. "I just haven't been in a date in a while and yeah."
I smiled,"Would you like to come inside?"
Jack looked up from his converse and grinned,"I would love that."
Unlocking the door I led him inside,"Welcome to my humble abode."
Jack snorted,"You're cheesy."
I blushed and shrugged,"Well..yeah."
"And I love it," he smirked stepping closer.
"That's gouda," I rasped, he was standing so close I could have easily counted the hairs in his eyebrows.
His smirk didn't fade as he lifted my chin and put his lips on mine.
I stood in shock for a moment before letting my eyes flutter shut as I kissed him back.
Shifting his hands he deepened the kiss.
Slowly, he started backing me up to the couch as he played with the button of my jeans.
Realization hit me and I pulled away,"What are you doing?"
Jack's eyes widened as his cheeks flared,"I-I thought we could fool around or something."
"I'm sorry Jack I'm just not ready," I stated nervously Alex's words running through my head.
"Yeah. Yeah,of course. I'm an idiot," Jack sighed tugging at his hair.
"I'm sorry," I repeated.
"It's not your fault. I should leave," Jack frowned.
"You don't have to," I said quickly. Despite the awkward moment I didn't want the date to end yet.
"Yeah I do. I'm sorry Dakota," Jack mumbles exiting before I could stop him.
Frowning, I huffed and sat on the couch. I jumped as my phone started vibrating. It was Zack calling.
I thought of not answering but then he would just come over.
Sighing in defeat I picked it up,"Hi."
"Hey! You have fun?" Zack asked cheerfully.
"For the most part," I told him honestly.
"Why do you sound sad?"he questioned, alarm lacing his voice.
Not wanting to explain I simply said," Come over."
****
About 25 minutes later I heard a knock on my door. Turning the TV off I stood up and opened it.
Instead of Zack I was face to face with Alex,"Hey Dakota."
"Hey,um what happened to Zack?" I asked letting him in.
"He forgot that he promised his mom he would eat dinner with them so he sent me," Alex explained with a goofy grin.
"Couldn't he have sent someone who isn't Jack's best friend?" I sighed sitting on the couch.
Alex sat beside me,"So it didn't go well?"
"It did," I defended before frowning. "At first anyways."
"Explain," Alex pressed.
So I did as Alex watched me in intense silence.
"Damn. So he left because you wouldn't have sex with him?" Alex frowned after I'd finished.
Unshed tears stung my eyes,"Maybe that's all he ever wanted."
"Or maybe he got embarrassed. Jack usually doesn't get shot down often. You just caught him off his game," Alex shrugged.
"I doubt Jack is the embarrassed type," I shot back.
"No he acts like he's not. He doesn't like to be. I bet he likes you and just scared he screwed it up."
"Maybe."
"Call him?"
I looked at Alex in disbelief, "What? No!"
"Do it! Let him know his little pumpkin wumpkin isn't mad at him,"Alex pressed.
I was about to argue when I realized what he has said," Pumpkin wumpkin?"
"Yeah, cute, right?" Alex grinned. "Now call him!"
I groaned,"Fine." Picking up my phone I dialed his number. It rang 3 times before going to voicemail. "He forwarded me." I frowned and tossed my phone onto the coffee table.
"Maybe he's busy," Alex said with little hope in voice.
I shrugged.
"Here I'll call him. I bet he's busy and ignore my call too," Alex grinned pulling his phone out of his pocket.
I watched as Alex bought his phone up to his ear. It barely rang before I heard Jack's voice.
"Hey Jack!" Alex greeted cheerfully even though there was a deep frown on his face. "I was going to prank call you but forgot the prank. Funny right? Haha. Okay bye."
Alex ended the call and looked at me sadly,"I'm sorry."
I shrugged staring at the blank TV, "Whatever."
Alex scooted closer and held out his arms, "Do you need a hug?"
My lip trembled as I grabbed onto him.
Wrapping me tightly in his arms he quietly sang,"He woke up from dreaming and put on shoes. Started making his way past two in the morning. He hasn't been sober for days."
