cutting a rose

Once upon a time in a little town lived a girl called Meredid and a boy called Esteban.

Every afternoon they went to a beautiful field of roses to see the sunset. Esteban promised her that every day he will give her a rose to remind her how much he loved her and that he will be thinking about her. Unfortunately there was a jealous girl that doesn't like them love, a girl which only love was taken away from her hands, her name was Roxan.

A long time ago Roxan used to has everything, including her dreamt man, but a tragedy happened, the man who would marry her the next day, was killed.

Since that day Roxan star to feel jealous from every happy person. No one was happier than Esteban and Meredid, them love was the biggest one.

One day Roxan started to think about a plan to destroy Esteban and Meredid's love. One afternoon Meredid was going to the field to meet her love to give him a great new, then Roxan appeared and talk to her:

-Hey! I need to talk to you.

-I'm sorry but I don't have time, my love is waiting for me.

-I won't take too much from your time.

-Well, tell me

-I don't know if it's okay to tell you, but your "love" has cheated on you, he told another girl that he was in love with her. Right now he is boarding a ship with his real love.

Meredid was so disappointed, she couldn't believe it, and her heart was broken into thousand pieces. While she was crying, Esteban was waiting for her in the field with a surprise, that day he was going to ask her for marriage. Esteban wait for many hours until it was night, but she never appeared, so he decided to leave a rose with the ring in a rock and started to walk to his home, near his home Roxan told him that Meredid escaped with a boy and they boarded a ship in the afternoon because that man was her real love. Esteban's heart started to beat too hard and his face was full of tears because he knew why Meredid didn't go to the date.

Next morning Meredid's father with eyes filled of tears gave a packet with a black withered rose to Esteban ,it was from Meredid, inside the packet it was a letter that said:

Dear Esteban:

My heart couldn't resist that new, just to know that won't see you anymore, mortifies me, you are the reason why I live and you left me alone. I leave this rose for you to know that as it I'm wither and in a short period my petals will fall until the wind take me and can't leave any trace.

Also I want you to know that in my trip I won't be alone, a little and beautiful angel will be with me.

With love, Meredid.

Esteban was confused because he didn't understand why Meredid wrote that letter or why the letter says that he left her alone? If she was who left him, Esteban's head was full of questions with none answer so he decided to go and talk to Roxan because she told him that Meredid escaped with another man.

When Esteban was in Roxan's home started to ask her many questions, Roxan felt that there wasn't any other way that saying what really happened.

-I feel so sorry, I was too jealous and didn't want to see people happy. I told you and I told Meredid the same story just to destroy your love. I thought that if I wasn't happy, nobody deserves to be happy either. Please forgive me.

Esteban was too mad with Roxan but when he saw her eyes filled of tears, he realized how does it feel to be alone and to have an embitter life. He understood that her feeling blinded her and because of that he forgave her.

-Now I'm your friend, I will always be with you, you will never be alone Roxan.

Esteban and Roxan sought Meredid by sky, land and sea but they never found her. A year later Esteban's hope was still alive because he felt that Meredid was nearer every day.

One day Esteban traveled to a tribe called "Rio Sonoro" Esteban asked for a girl with light hair as honey, lips red as ruby and black eyes as the night, he told them that her name was Meredid.

-A few moons ago a girl like the one you described arrived here and she lived here for a short time. A woman with incomparable beauty, she went out every afternoon at the sunset and climbed the mountain and cut a rose, she was always seeing the horizon as if she was looking for something or someone. Unfortunately she never told us her name, but we called her Rosy, because of every rose she cut.

-Where is she right now?

With a sad face the chief told him:

-She passed away, we found her in the top of the mountain with a rose in her hands and a thorn in her forefinger.

Immediately Esteban kneel down and started to cry.

-Stop crying, that girl left something for you.

-I don't understand. What are you talking about?

-Before she passed away, she had a baby and she said that her name would be Ayana because it means: Eternal flower.

Esteban felt too happy when he heard that new.

-Can I see my baby girl?

-Of course, come with me.

The girl was being care for the chief's wife. Esteban leaned on the cradle and he was impressed to see so much beauty, the baby had the same sweetness and warmth as Meredid, that deep black eyes that took him breathe away, but it was impossible to stop seeing them, the same eyes his love had.

Esteban carried her and felt her little heart beating, seeing that innocent face, she looks like and angel, although Meredid wasn't with him, she left him the most important and beautiful part of her.

He promised to take care, protect and love her every single moment of his life. Although Meredid wasn't alive he full filled his promise, every afternoon Esteban cut a red rose and leave it into Meredid's place. Ayana also leave to her roses, but white roses to represent the purity of her heart.

Years passed and as long as Ayana grow up she looks more like her mother, and Esteban loves her as he loved Meredid.
