Leaving Home

Chapter 1

~Tana~

 "Are you ready Tana?!" my mom called.

"Yes mom, for the millionth time! I'm ready!" I laughed, "why are you so worried?"

"It's just that this is the first time that you wouldn't be with us... Is it too late to change your mind and stay at Harvard?" she jokingly pleaded.

"No mom, I want to go to NYU, I'm lucky that I was allowed to go there in the middle of the first semester. And, NYU is the only place where I can study what I really want to." Going to NYU was my dream, the only reason I went to Harvard in the first place was because I didn't feel ready to leave my family behind.

Hugging my parents continuously, my mom was sobbing. I don't understand the big deal, I promised to call them, and visit them when I had the free time. I love my parents though, they supported me, and I don't know what I would do without them.

"Bye mom, bye dad, I'm really gonna miss you both." I smiled my best smile, assuring them that I was going to be okay by myself.

After about an hour, going through security and the whole plane process, I boarded my plane going to New York City, I silently squealed to myself. I was really excited, my dreams were finally coming true, and now, I really felt like an adult. I loved the feeling of being responsible.

Seating myself at my seat I smiled and greeted the person sitting next to me.

"Hey, my name is Nicah!" She looked really pretty and she was really nice, I already liked her.

"Hi, my name is Tana, oh and I'm just wondering, what are you going to New York for?" I asked, trying not to be nosy.

"I'm going to New York because I'm going to be joining NYU, I guess that's the only place I want to go because it's one of the best cities in the world, how about you?" She asked, I really like this girl.

"Wow! I'm also going to NYU, I was actually at Harvard before, but I wanted to join NYU because that was my dream for a long time, I just couldn't find the right time so say goodbye to my family." I sighed, remembering how just about 1 and a half hours ago, I was saying goodby to my family.

"We're both new and it would take some time to make new friends, so, why don't we first stick together, and we can make new friends together, so that we don't have to be alone the whole time." Nicah suggested.

 "Deal!" we both giggled. So far so good, I smiled to myself.

Who knew that just smiling and greeting the person next to you would give you a friend when you really needed one? I think this school year is going to be a good one!
