~~~~~Chapter Two: Something Is Seriously Wrong Here~~~~~
"Hey, Zoe, what's up?" I glanced up and saw Mike (a.k.a. Micheal) grinning down at me.
"Nothing much, just reading." I held the book up for him to see. It was the Hobbit.
"Cool, I've read that book...hey, can I ask you something?" He said, sliding into the chair next to me.
"Okay, shoot."
He looked down and rubbed the back of his neck. "I was...well I was wondering if...you and I could...maybe go get some dinner tonight?" He glanced up at me and when he saw me staring at him, his face flushed and he looked down again.
"S-sure." I stuttered. Mike and I had been friends since...well, since forever. He was also my first kiss.
"Cool," he said grinning. "I'll pick you up at...eight?"
"Yeah...see you then?" I asked smiling up at him.
"Yep," he said, popping the 'p'.
"Later, Mike."
"Later, Kenzie."
I know what y'all must be thinking. Kenzie? Well, yeah. My actual name was Mackenzie but I'm not entirly sure how my nick name ended up being Zoe.
~7:15pm~
"Ohmigodohmigodohmigodohmigodohmigodohm-" Sophie cut off my chant by slapping a hand over my mouth.
"MACKENZIE PIPER JULIA SUMEMRS YOU WILL CALM DOWN AND CALM DOWN NOW!" She pause. "Ewww! You licked my hand!" She cradled her hand and shot me a look of disgust. "Mackenzie, I don't care how nervous you are, it's only a date, nothing to worry about, okay?"
I nodded. But inside I was still freaking out.
"M.J. are you okay now?" I nodded again. "Good 'cause we gotta figure out what you're gonna wear on this date of yours." She walked over to my closet and started throwing things out. A dress I had bought over the summer landed on my head.
I pulled it off.
"So, Zoe, figured out what you're going to do for your birthday tomorrow?" she asked me as she tossed yet another dress on top of my head.
"No. I really just want something small...maybe I don't even need a birthday party anymore..." I trailed off.
In seconds she had whipped around. "You've got to be kidding me! Kenzie, it's your sixteenth birthday! You have to do SOMETHING!" She screeched at me. "Now, we'll argue over that later. We have a lot of work to do to get you ready for this date, girl. Let's get started."
**Three hours and a lot more complaining later**
"Are you almost done yet?!" I asked Sophie for the umpteenth time.
She huffed but smiled. "Yeah, I'm finally done. Ready to see?" she asked me.
"Yeah..." She then proceeded to move out of the way so I could finally look at the mirror. I gasped at what I saw.
There was a girl. She was of average height but that was about the only average thing about her. She had long, wavy brown hair that fell to almost her waist. She was skinny, but not too much, and her skin was ever so slightly tanned. She was wearing a pretty white dress with a small white headband, to hold back the hair from her face. On her tiny feet were white sandals that made her already small feet look dainty. Her eyes though, drew the most attention. They were a deep blue, framed by naturally long, dark lashes. She had a small, button nose and plump, rosy red lips. The only make-up she wore was a clear lip gloss that made her lips look as if she had just been kissed.
She was beautiful. That girl was me.
"Wow." I whispered. "You did a good job, Soph. A really good job."
She laughed. "Thanks. Now shoo!" she said just as the doorbell rang.
I grabbed my purse, stuck my cell and lip gloss in, and ran down the stairs.
I opened the door to find a nervous looking Mike standing there with a boutique of flowers. "Hey, Mike. Awe, are these for me?!" I squealed trying to make him less nervous. He nodded and handed them to me, smiling and looking a little less tense.
"C'mon Kenz, let's go." He said after I came back from putting them in a vase. He grabbed my hand, flashing me a smile as he lead me to his car. I didn't know much about cars, but this one looked expensive. It looked exactly like Bumble-Bee from "Transformers" but it was blue, not yellow.
As we drove, a comfortable silence filled the car. When we got to the surprise location, I gasped and grinned. "No way. You did not do this for me, Mike!" I said, squealing in delight. He had taken me to my favorite restaurant, Little B's Pancake House and no one was there. Inside, it was dark except for the candles on the table set for two in the middle of the room.
I suddenly felt like I was being watched and spun around to look out the window. I thought I could just make out the hazy outline of a figure but I blinked my eyes and it was gone. Huh. Must have imagined it.
As we ate, I kept getting the same feeling again- that someone was watching me. And every time I looked, I thought I saw a figue but I blinked and it disappeared.
When the dinner was over and we were exiting the building, a voice called my name. "McKenzie."
I whipped around and saw the figure- it was a he. He stood and stared and then turned to walk away. As he walked, he was joined by three other men, all walking side by side.
It finally registered in my brain that Michael was talking to me and didn't notice the interaction at all.
"-so he started to dance and Kelly laughed and told him to stop because he looked like he was having a spasmatic attack- if thats even a thing. Hey, you okay?" He asked, finally noticing the stricken look on my face.
I just nodded and forced a smile. Something was SERIOUSLY wrong and I was dead set on figuring it out.
**A/N**
So wow. Been a while. Anyways, her birthday is tomorrow, what y'all thinkin thats gonna happen? Well, since you read the description, you probably know but oh well. Hopefully I'll have it up soon. Bye!! And please ignore the mistakes!!
