Jeremy walked into Rick's apartment to find his friend standing with a notebook in hand. He immediately recognized the faded blue cover and tried to grab it, but Rick dodged his hand.

"Not so fast there, these love sonnets are fragile!"

"Dude give it back!" Jeremy charged again, "Where did you find this?"

Rick ignored him, instead using the couch like a stage. "Ahem, I shall now perform 'Divided' for your listening pleasure!

Jeremy gave up, instead he listened to his friend's baritone voice hum the melody a bit before singing.

I turn and walk away from you

It's hard to know if this is what I'm supposed to do!

Would I not break your heart if given a second chance?

Or would I still do the same old stupid thing again?

I'm divided!

My heart is torn in two

I can't fight it!

Too many options for me to choose

And I know now

The choice is up to you

'Cause I'm divided

Just know I still love you...

He stops singing and looks at Jeremy with wide eyes, "You still love Belle."

"I wrote that, like, eight years ago-"

"Oh stop the act Jer, you love her! This is great!" Rick shouts!

"How is this great?" Jeremy looks at him incredulously, "She's moved on! Got her own life! She doesn't need me anymore."

"Give me concrete evidence that she doesn't need you and maybe I'll listen, but for now you're just overthinking it bro." He claps his hands suddenly, "I've got it! Ask her out!"

"Oh great, that'll totally calm my nerves! Thanks Ricky, you're a genius!" Jer exclaims, heavily sarcastic. "It's been two days and she hasn't called, or texted, I mean, she could have been just politely tolerating me this whole time!"

"And they say girls are always the emotional ones," Rick rolls his eyes, "Here, I'll script it out for you. 'Hey Belle. I was wondering if you'd like to join me for dinner tonight? You know, to catch up. You would? Okay, great! So, I'll pick you up at seven? Great! Okay, see you then. Bye.' Ta da! Easy as cereal!"

"Cereal? I thought the saying was 'easy as pie'?"

"Have you even tried making pie? It's hard! Cereal's easy, you just pour it in a bowl."

Jeremy laughed, "That makes sense. I really don't know if I should though..."

"Well too bad because technically you're calling her now," Rick says, holding a phone to his ear.

"What?!? Dude you can't just take someone's phone!" Jer panicked and reached for the device.

"Your fault for having an easy password." His friend shrugged.

Before Jeremy could reply, the phone stopped ringing and Belle's voice came through.

"Hello?"

"I still don't understand why you haven't even texted him!" Suesan cries.
