I checked my phone when I woke up, noon, as always. My mom is bomb enough to let me sleep in instead of waking me up. I got up, brushed my teeth and washed my face. I sat in front of my vanity and took my hair out of the braids I made last night. The waves fell perfectly down past my shoulders and I combed through them with my fingers. I didn't feel like putting makeup on, so I just got dressed in light blue shorts and a yellow crop top. I grabbed my favorite sunglasses, slung my little purse over my shoulder and slipped on my white vans.
It was a warm summer day and I wanted to take a walk in my quiet neighborhood. Maybe I'll head down the street to that house someone just moved into. I've lived in this neighborhood my whole life and I know everyone, so maybe I'll introduce myself. I breathed in the fresh air as I started down the street.
"Good afternoon, (y/n)!" I looked over into the yard of old Mrs.Hong watering her garden.
"Good afternoon, Mrs.Hong!"
"Come over for a minute!" She called.
I walked up to her and she took her gloves off.
"Wait here a minute," She went inside then came back out with a small bag of chocolate chip cookies. Mrs.Hong always bakes me things. "Here, I know they're your favorite," She smiled and handed me the bag.
"Thank you so much, Mrs.Hong," I gladly accepted the bag.
"Your welcome dear. Did you hear of that new family that just moved in?" She asked.
"Oh yes, I did,"
"Well I brought them a tray of rice cakes this morning , real nice people. They have a son your age," She said, winking.
"Oh, do they?" I chuckled nervously.
"Quite handsome, too," She laughed like a school girl at my red face. "Stop by, would you?"
"I will,"
"Now go on back to your walk, these roses aren't going to water themselves," She giggled and I smiled.
"Okay, I'll see you later," We waved and I started walking back down the street towards that house.
I slowly put one foot in front of the other as I opened the bag and took a cookie out. I was getting a little anxious as I got closer to the house. I finished my cookie and put the rest in my purse. Once I got to the house, I stopped in front of it and examined it. I knew the people who lived here previously and I've been inside a few times, it's going to be weird seeing it looking completely different. I sighed and walked up to the door. I was hesitant to knock, but my hand had a life of it's own and knocked anyway. A few seconds later, the door opened and a cute girl, obviously younger than me, opened the door.
"Hi," She said.
"Oh, hello, a-are your parents here?" I asked, trying not to sound creepy.
"Sofia, what did mom and dad tell you about answering the door when they're not here?" A voice called.
A second later, the door opened wider and an older boy appeared. My eyes widened a little. The two of them looked like carbon copies of each other.
"Hi," I said.
"Hi,"
"My name is (y/n), I live down the street. I was just passing by and thought I'd stop and introduce myself since you just moved here," I felt like I was rambling and I blushed.
He smiled. "I'm Hansol, this is my little sister, Sofia," He said.
It got very awkward because I didn't know what else to say so I cleared my throat. "Well it was nice meeting you, I should get going," I said quietly.
He looked a little surprised. "Oh, alright, I'll probably see you later then?"
"Sure," I gave him a smile and started walking away.
My hands clenched the strap of my purse and I scrunched my face. When I was out of sight, I smacked my forehead and sighed heavily. Mrs.Hong was right, he is attractive! And I probably looked stupid in front of him. I tried to forget about it by walking all the way to the end of the neighborhood and to the convenience store to get something to drink. On the way back home, I took a different way so I didn't have to pass their house. I looked down at the ground and kicked a rock that I found in front of the convenience store. I was lost in thought until I heard my name.
"Hey, (y/n)?" I looked up and saw Hansol on the other side of the street, looking at me.
My heart skipped a beat when he smiled at me. Him wearing that white t-shirt and snapback didn't help. He pulled an earbud and walked over to me.
"Hey," I said.
"Where you heading?"
"I was probably just going to go home," I said.
"Ah, well I'm a little lost, do you think you an help me get back home?" He asked, nervously.
I giggled and nodded. "Sure,"
Since he didn't know where he was, I took the advantage and took a long way to his house just so I could spend more time with him. We walked and talked for a while. Sure enough he was the same age as me, he's going to be attending the same school as me, and he's from New York. I felt him looking at me so I looked.
"What?"
"You have something on your sunglasses," He slowly took them off and smiled. "There we go, now I can see the rest of your pretty face,"
My heart beat faster and I suddenly remembered I wasn't wearing makeup and got self conscious. I smiled shyly and tried to grab my glasses but he held them up so I couldn't reach them.
"It's not even that sunny out! You don't need them," He put them on instead.
"Oh, so you're gonna wear them?" I asked, laughing.
Eventually, we got to his house and I sighed. "Home sweet home," I mumbled.
Hansol looked at me and smiled. "You should come by tomorrow," He said.
"I should?"
He nodded. "Yeah, we can hang out some more,"
I smiled. "Sure, I'd love to," Hansol pat my arm and went inside.
As I walked home, I just thought about everything that happened, but I kept thinking about one thing.
Mrs.Hong was right, he is attractive.
