"Three words, Addy. Fuck. Right. Off."

The venom in her tone would make any normal person cringe, and yet, I leaned closer, the table between us seeming ready to bear my weight. I studied her features, from her long blue hair to her tighter than needed Two Door Cinema Club Shirt.

You'd have to be extremely stupid to piss Astrid off, or be her boyfriend. I fulfilled neither of those roles, but I was her main fling so at least I had that. It'd be hard to leave her back in the city, but I needed a change in pace.

"Why do you have to go? Won't you miss the city and it's charm?"

I scoffed. Charm didn't fit this place. There was trash everywhere, the streets smelled of drugs, death, and misfortune, and God knows how I hated the damp and dreary climate.

"Charm my ass. Unless you meant the rain and the noisy traffic, charm isn't here."

I obviously didn't choose my words correctly because she pouted, and my heart softened. I couldn't leave her. I didn't want to. But I needed to. Hell, I had to. But I guess she put charm in this hellish place.

"Besides you of course. You're my charm."

It was stupid and cheesy, but she smiled and so did I.

"That'll be $16.74, cash, credit or debit?"

I hadn't even noticed the waitress walk towards us. She was obviously bored of her job, as she glared while I hesitated to answer.

"Cash."

I turned around to see my best friend, and unfortunate classmate, Harold walk into the small diner. He nodded once to me, and grinned at the girl in front of me, before whipping out a $20 bill.

"Har..."

He shrugged and handed the waitress the bill, but not before winking at her. She rolled her eyes and stalked off, the gesture of flirting falling flat. Harold seemed to pout before his springy mood bounced back.

"'Stri, we should get him back to the building. It's about 11 and he's supposed to leave at 2."

Astrid sighed, knowing this moment had to come. I glanced at her and I held my breath. Would I be able to drop her? Probably not.

"Har, didn't Maryln want you?"

For reference, Maryln was a classmate and Harold's... for lack of better words, love interest. They'd been on and off for at least two years. Lately, however, they'd been pretty serious, to the point of announcing their love at the last Pep Rally. It was stupid and terribly planned, but they relished the attention.

"Ah shit. You're right. Sorry I can't see you off."

He dashed out of the diner and I sighed.

"We should go..."

I held Astrid's hand and let her into my car, a black Jeep Wrangler, then hopped in myself. She turned the radio on and the song playing dampened the mood between us.

"Makes you think, huh."

I glanced from the road for a second, the honk of horns telling me that I was to be here for a bit, and chuckled.

"I guess. Not a lot to think about besides how much I'll miss you."

She sighed in content, and pretty soon, we arrived at our building. My hand pressed under the bottom of her shirt, and she smirked then dashed off towards my apartment.

"That girl is gonna be the death of me."
