Fright Night

Chapter 9

One of Them

Maddy's POV

I slowly opened my eyes but nothing was the same, it was too dark. 'Night time?' I thought. I looked around to see Nate guarding a doorway, I was wondering why he looked black and white. I walked towards him, he looked at me and pulled out his gun, pointing it at me. I stopped in place, I tried to speak but all that came out was groans, fear filled my body as I realized I had turned into a zombie. I slowly backed away from Nate, he lowered his gun and looked down. I walked back to the living room, Tyler was lying on the ground, his neck had a bite mark on it. The fear in my body got worse as I began to think I might've bitten him. I looked at my leg, it was totally broken but I couldn't feel in pain, I heard a door slam shut and heard someone talking, "That was close Danny." A female spoke.
         "Yeah, I know Tiana." A male voice spoke. I stayed in the living room until I saw a boy and girl enter the living room. The boy had short brown hair, wearing glasses and had a crossbow. The girl had long brown hair and two long swords tucked behind her back.
            "Oh crap, a zombie!" The boy yelled, freezing once he saw me. He pulled out his crossbow and pointed it at me, I stumbled my way to get away. "What the hell? That's a first, come Tiana, we can't let it get away." He yelled.
             I ran towards Nate, he noticed and reached for his gun again, I noticed he smelled like blood. I hid behind him, he looked at me with confusion in his eyes. "What the-" Nate began until he got cut off. The dude grabbed his crossbow off the floor, I moved out of the way as he followed me with the crossbow. Nate pushed him off of him and grabbed the crossbow out of his hands. "Don't you fucking dare!" Nate said, his voice was low.
         I saw this weird black cloud that was hovering over him, I noticed that the new guys had fear in his eyes as he stared Nate in the eyes. He shook it off and looked at me. "Dude! Why are you protecting this zombie? We need to kill it before it kills us all." The guys said, angrily.
        Nate shook his head as he struggled with the man with the crossbow as he was trying to point it at me as Nate pushed it away from me. "She wouldn't, Maddy's not like that. I would have been dead already if she wanted to kill me, I've been guarding ever since six in the morning and nothing has happened." Ate explained , defending me.
        "You don't know, she could be waiting for the right time." The girl said, rushing into the room with her swords at the ready, pointing it at me. Nate pushed himself off the boy and stood in front of me, arms out wide.
         "She wouldn't, I know it!" Nate said. I felt him back up, I sat there terrified out of mine. "If you kill her, you'll have to kill me." Nate said,
          They looked at each other then back at us, the girl helped the guy up, the boy sighed and put his crossbow away, the girl placed her swords away. "Fine, we won't but if she tries anything, I'm shooting her." The boy said.
          The girl looked over to us and smiled, she held out her hand towards Nate. "Names Tiana, this is Danny."
         "Hey, mine Nate. This is Maddy, we have a lot more stairs. There is one more thing, there is another zombie in the living room, who is Maddy's brother, Tyler." Nate said, turning around and helped me to my feet, ignoring her hand. We heard footsteps upstairs, we saw Hunter running down the staircase, ran past everyone and hugged me super tight. "This is Hunter, Maddy's twin brother." Nate introduced.
          "Maddy, oh my god. I wish I was there when you got bitten." He said, nearly starting to cry. I wanted to say I love you and I didn't want to be like this anymore but all that came out was groans. "I wish I could understand you." He said, grabbed my face.
          "Hello, nice to meet you Hunter, I'm Danny and Tiana." Danny said, introducing himself. Hunter turned around and looked them up and down.
          "Oh, um, hello?" Hunter said. I stumbled my way back into the living room, I saw Tyler was standing up looking at me. I realized how bad he looked. I walked over to him, I stood beside him.
           "It's going to be okay." I groaned not thinking he could hear me. I was trying to convince myself.
           "I hope so." I heard him groan. I looked at him in surprise, I was so shocked that he could understand me.
           "Wait, you can understand me?" I said, confused. He shrugged. I started to find it a little weird that we could still move around like our normal selves and were only able to understand each other but the others couldn't understand us. I was wondering why we weren't trying to kill our friends like other zombies.
          "Yeah I guess." He groaned, not seeming to care as much. I started to think that maybe the zombie virus worked differently on me because I wasn't from this dimension, I just wondered why it was acting the same way from Tyler as well. "Man, I didn't expect to be turned into a zombie." Tyler groaned.
          Danny and Tiana walked into the living room, Danny seemed uncomfortable once he saw us standing by a small fireplace. Tyler looked at me, "Who are they?" Tyler groaned.
         "New people, they nearly killed me but we're cool if we don't attack them or anyone." I explained the best I could. Hunter walked in with Nate, he just froze and stared at Tyler, Tyler looked sad but angry at the same time. They walked over to the couch, Hunter ended up pulling Nate to the couch. I pushed Tyler to the wall, we were all silent. Nate and Tyler seemed to be acting weird.
         Hunter seemed pissed off, he turned to face Nate. "This sucks, Nate. If you would of shut your mouth in the stupid cave, Tyler wouldn't be this way." Hunter said, angrily. Nate looked at Hunter angrily.
        "My fault?" Nate started, sounding offended, "How is this my fault? He's the one who started this by fighting with me." Nate continued.
         Hunter placed his finger on Nate's chest and stared him right in the eyes. "Your the one who told him that Maddy and you were dating. Not to mention that fact that you said at least we didn't have a fight as our last goodbye." Hunter said, angrily. Nate pushed the finger away from him. "Your suck an asshole." Hunter continued.
         Once more there was a black mist hovering around Nate. "Asshole? Oh I'll show you who's the asshole." Nate said, punching Hunter in the face.
         They began to fight, Nate pushed him off the couch, they were rolling on the ground, punching and slapping each other like little kids. I looked over to Tyler, he seemed different, like he wasn't there anymore. He started to walk towards Nate, I started to stumble towards him and started to try pushing him back but he pushed right past me.
        "Tyler, stop please. Don't hurt him." I groaned. He didn't answer me but Nate heard my groans and saw him coming. Nate quickly pushed Hunter off of him and pushed himself to his feet.
         "Tyler? Snap out of it man." He said, backing away from him. I got over to Tyler, pushed him to the ground. Something snapped and he was back, he looked over to me and then Nate. He seemed scared.
         "Tyler? What was that?" I asked, frightened of what just happened. I slowly pushed myself to my feet, Tyler followed right after.
        "I... I-I don't know. Maddy, I'm scared." He groaned. I looked at Nate, he seemed worried. I heard footsteps, I looked up to see Khyra, Ella and Raven awake. They looked around, they noticed Hunter on the ground, me standing over Tyler and everyone else scared.
       "Good morning. Nate and Hunter, we heard yelling, is everything okay?" Khyra asked, seeming a bit worried.
       "Everything is perfectly fine." Hunter snarled as he walked out of the room. Raven looked over to notice the new people.
       "Oh, hello. I don't think we met. This is Khyra, Ella and Raven." Raven introduced while crossing her arms. Danny didn't seem to care and wouldn't keep his eyes off us, Tiana rolled her eyes at Danny and walked over to Raven.
        "Hello, I'm Tiana, this is Danny." Tiana said, introducing them both. Raven looked over towards the way Hunter walked off to.
        "What was up with Hunter?" Raven asked, curiously. Nate rolled his eyes and walked over and sat back on the couch with his arms crossed.
        "Nothing you need to worry about, if I mention it Tyler will just snap again." Nate snarled. Khyra noticed me and ran over to me.
        "Oh my god, Maddy." She said, looking up at me. She turned to face Raven, Raven looked at her with concern in her eyes. "Is it safe to hug her?" She asked.
          Raven shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know Khyra, probably not since she's a zombie."
          I lifted my hand and smeared my blood on her neck to make her smell like a zombie, she smiled and hugged me. "I do find it strange that they haven't tried to attack us like normal zombies yet, they seem like their normal selves." Raven mentioned.
         "I don't know, maybe it's because Maddy's from a different dimension. It could be affecting her differently than normal humans." Nate mentioned, looking at me. He turned to Tyler with confusion. "But I don't understand why Tyler is acting the same way as her, only attacking us when I say the G word." Nate added.
         Khyra looked up at me with tears in her eyes, "I wish there was a way to turn her back to normal." Tiana and Danny looked at each other.
        "Well..." Tiana started to get everyone's attention. "There is one way." She continued. Everyone seemed shocked to hear about a way.
        "The only way to cure someone who has been turned into a zombie is a unicorn, which is extremely rare since they can travel through dimensions. They are able to cure one person, so one of you has to stay a zombie unless we somehow find two." Danny explained. Everything was silent for a moment, everyone was speechless, they weren't sure if they believed them or not, frankly I didn't believe them myself. "Also, it turns you into a zombie, so during the day you're human but you change back into a zombie during the night and then human in the day again and so on." Danny continued.
        I noticed Tyler looking at the ground, I stumbled over to him. "I want you to get changed back." I moaned. He looked up at me and shook his head in disagreement. "I'm not arguing with this Tyler, I won't be happy knowing that I couldn't save my older brother so please." I begged
         "Fine, only if it makes you happy." He moaned. I smiled, Khyra grabbed my hand and started to drag me towards the door.
         "Then what are we waiting for? Let's get the others and go!" Khyra said. Raven ran upstairs and started to get the other up so we could head out.
        "We'll show you the way, we ran into a few along the road up here." Danny explained. After Raven came down with the others Danny and Tiana led the way to the mysterious unicorns.

          We were on the road for hours now and we still hadn't seen a single unicorn. "Are you sure that we are on the right road?" Hunter questioned, sounding tired.
           "I'm sure of it, we have seen two or three on this road before." Tiana said. Suddenly it felt like I had no control of my body, the world around me started to turn a tinge of red as I started to walk towards Nate, I grabbed him and pushed him to the ground.
         "Maddy!? What the hell, snap out of it!" He yelled, terrified. The yelling didn't make me stop, I got closer and closer to biting him on the neck until I heard a gunshot. I fell backwards, snapping out of the trance, I saw Danny holding his gun towards me. I looked at my right arm and saw blood rolling down it from a bullet hole that I couldn't tell was there. I pushed myself away from everyone until I ran into someone behind me. He looked at me with worry in his eyes.
       "We're changing into them more and more by the hour." He groaned. I looked back at the others, I felt weaker and I started not remembering things.
       "How much longer? We need to save them before it's too late." Nate said, angrily but worriedly at the same time.
       "I don't know, the last time we saw two. We were forced to stop because of a group of zombies." Danny explained. I pushed myself to my feet and continued walking until I noticed Khyra start freaking out.
      "Oh my gosh, it's so cute!" Khyra said. We walked over to see a white unicorn with bluish purple hair and tail. "Can we keep it?" She asked.
        Hunter looked around and shrugged. "I don't see why not." Hunter said, smiling. She hugged the unicorn and had a big smile on her face.
       "I'm gonna call you, MajesticUnicornWarrior but uni for short." She laughed. Hunter laughed with her, I would laugh if I could as well, Nate didn't seem to be amused. 
       "Okay, now bigger matters, which one to change back?" Tiana said. I walked behind Tyler and nudged him forward.
       "Okay, I'm guessing it will be Tyler." Danny said. Tyler walked over to Nate, he was acting strange again but not the same type of strange from earlier. He walked in front of the unicorn and groaned. Nate told something to the unicorn and it nodded. The unicorn's horn started to glow purple and as it shot towards Tyler, I got pushed into front of him, causing a flash of light and knocking me out.

Tyler's POV

            I walked over to Nate and did my best to tell him that I wanted Maddy to turn back, he seemed to understand and nodded. I didn't want her to be a zombie, I rather be the zombie than her. I walked in front of the unicorn while Nate walked over to the unicorn and whispered in the unicorn's ears. I couldn't be back to normal, it had to be Maddy, Nate was making sure the unicorn knew who was getting changed back. As Nate walked beside Maddy, the unicorn's horn started to glow purple and as it shot, I saw Maddy get pushed in front of me. I looked over to Nate and smiled, she fell to the ground in front of me. Hunter and Khyra picked me up and we continued down the pathway. The others were questioning why Maddy was pushed in front of me and Nate explained what happened to them. "Man, let's find another house so we can wash Maddy up, Tyler could use one as well." Hunter suggested.
            I shrugged, it was boring being the only zombie that wasn't considered a bad zombie. I looked over to Nate, he was walking funny. I stumbled towards him and pointed at his leg. He looked down at it and then smiled awkwardly at me. "Oh it's just from walking too much, I'll be fine once we find a place to stay." He said.

          We finally found a little town house for us to stay in, it was run down but it was good enough. Nate opened the door, they brought Maddy upstairs and washed her up after checking the house was safe first. After they were done washing her, Nate helped wash me since I was unable to wash myself. When we were done, he brought her down the stairs and placed her on the couch. I stumbled down the stairs and hung out in the living room with them. Raven went for a shower next, everyone made their way upstairs to find a place to sleep. Nate laid against the couch and ended up falling asleep, I just stumbled around the room until morning.
