On Our Own

Chapter One: 5 years ago

Kaylyn's POV ( 13 years old )

I was hidibg in my closet with ny baby brother, who was now asleep. We've been in jere for abouy 30 mins, after my mom told us to hide. I had no idea what was going on, until, i heard that voice that me me feel quisy.

"SHUT THE FUCK UP KRISTIE"

When i heard that voice, my blood ran cold. It was my mom's boyfriend, Ryan. He would always beat my mom and us. One time, he beat me so bad, that i blacked out.

I was interrupted from my inner thoughts when i heard screaming and then a gunshot.

I heard Christain shift around, i had put him under one of my jackets. As i was making sure that he was ok, i heard footsteps coming upstairs. I was frozen, my body felt as if it was stuck to the floor.I then heard my door bust open, when Ryan walked in, i heard my than one voice enter my room, i was terrified.

My baby brother started waking up a little bit, but i knew it wasnt save for him to be awake, he was only 7 weeks old and if something happened to him, i dobt know what id do. I was thinking hard until i heard my name being called.

"KAYLYN, I KNOW YOU AND THAhT PUNK OF A BROTHER IN HERE!"

I then grabbed Christain, and laid him way in the corner and covered him up with my chlothes because he had fallen asleep agaib and i had to hide him. I then huddled myself in the opposite corner and coveres myself up with chlothes as well.

Right when i finished, the closet door swung violently open and i froze. I peeked my head from under my chlothes and saw Ryan going over to where i had laid Christain. I got panicked and i thought of the first thing i could do to protect my brother... I SNEEZED.

"KAYLYN!" Ryan said as he picked me up by my curly hair and swung me against the wall

"I TOLD YOU NOT TO TELL ANYONE ABOUT THIS AND YOU DID YOU FUCKING SNITCH!"

Some of Ryans buddies picked me up and threw me around for a while. After about 15 mins of torchering me, Ryan went in the closet and grabbed Christain and slung him on my bed.

As i glanced over to my crying little brother, i heard and gunshot go off and i blacked out, hearing the sound of Christain crying.
