~~~~😊~~~~What was it that brought them together, to be united in this perfect love?
One fateful day, Cedric had found her near death's door, and in a striking display of bravery, saved her very life. From then on, Cedric was sometimes needy and close, but then suddenly cold and fearful. Zoe tried her best to hide her pain, but it was plain in her crystals. That was how it was to this very day.
Yes. He often reflected upon that day with fondness. It was a day that had changed his life, after all.
Cedric, an empty man of remarkable acheivement, stood alone on the beach, gazing over the turquoise water with his morose cocoa windows to his soul. His obsidian hair rustled lightly in the ocean breeze. He tried to deny the stirrings in his heart as he clacked the heels of his raven boots together. He wore a lilac featureless robe, covering him from head to foot. His starless locks brushed against his earlobes,complementing his agonized coral-flushed milky visage. An elaborate tattoo snaked its way around his visible skin. A noticeable sigil provided proof of his descent. For a moment, he absorbed herself in these thoughts, of him and Zoe.
Cedric's copper depths spotted Zoe further down on the beach, closer to the roaring sea. Her lovely amber coiffure was attractive as ever. Her globes were turned toward the ocean, hidden from Cedric's sight, but he knew and loved their sweet toast-colored hue. She was dressed in that exotic fashion in which she was most comfortable. She had a generously curvaceous silvery, tinted with ochre,form. A prominent scar stood out on her pastel-flushed light-colored skin. As Cedric drew nearer, he caught a note of her familiar perfume: a sweet, rich lavender. His depths softened. It always reminded him of the time they shared. "Zoe," he called, walking towards her.She jumped a bit before turning around, smiling shyly. "Oh, Cedric! I-It's nice to see you."
Cedric shrugged and said only, "Let's go." They began their leisurely walk along the ocean's edge.
"Cedric," she intoned, "the sea is beautiful, isn't it? It's so ocean-colored and glittering." She glanced toward Cedric, who was unresponsive. "U-um... I'm really glad we can spend time together today. It's so lovely and warm."
"I don't care about the weather," Cedric snapped.
She jumped a bit and then fell silent, barely whispering, "Sorry."
Almost instantly, guilt flashed across his face, but just as quickly his cold facade returned to hide it. He looked at her, the loveliness of her amber hair,the hint of sadness in her adoring windows to her soul, and her beauty pierced Cedric's heart with shame. Who was he, after all, to hurt such a creature? He was to her as a devil to an angel. He summoned the strength to confess, "No." Zoe looked up at him with surprise. "Don't be... never mind." I should be the one who's sorry, Cedric thought to himself, but he couldn't work up the courage to say it.Gently, she brought her hand toward his, whispering, "It's okay. Don't... don't worry for me." Her blameless words only drove the dagger of regret deeper into his heart. He could never do anything right. Why should Zoe have to suffer for it? He wished he had the strength to be truthful to her. She was so gentle to him.
For a few moments they passed through another chilly silence. "Zoe," Cedric murmured at last. "I like these dates."
"Do you really?" she piped hopefully.
He was never good enough. Not only that, he was even a freak. And yet still Zoe looked at him with such adoration. He was undeserving. "Yes," he muttered. "I like spending time with you." She beamed such a happy smile at him that he couldn't help but look away. "I admit it, all right? ... I hate it when you're sad."
Zoe slipped her fingers into his curled hand and whispered, "I'm not so sad. I wish I could make you less sad. You're really hurting inside, I can feel it."
He accepted her touch and held her hand in his, saying nothing.
After a few moments, they found themselves walking down the beach again. Endlessly, Cedric was haunted by his legacy of failure -- but he resolved to battle it alone, as he had all his life. Zoe could not know. No one could. It was his burden alone to bear.All the same, Zoe seemed to notice. She looked at Cedric cautiously for a moment before murmuring, "Cedric? Is... something wrong?"
"Zoe... it's..."
And at that moment everything came together, all of the magic and the hurt that had been building that day, and she locked her depths with his and whispered, "You can tell me."
It was like a floodgate burst, or some barrier of fear had been struck down. Cedric shook his head and everything came out at once. "It's just... I'm just no good, Zoe. I can never do anything right.... I guess, I'm sorry. I just ruin everything. I'll probably ruin this.... I... forget it. I just can't..."
Zoe listened silently and solemnly. At last, when all the words had left him and he was at a loss for words, she reached out to him and took a deep breath to whisper back, "Cedric... I... I don't know what it's like, to live with your legacy of failure... but... I'm sorry, Cedric. I wish... I wish I could help."Cedric's eyes began to burn, and he abruptly pulled her into a fierce embrace. Her orbs widened at first, but then she too felt overwhelmed by emotion and succumbed to the warmth of his touch."You," Cedric whispered, his breath hot on her ear. "As long as you're here, I... I can make it." They held each other as tears trickled down cheeks and dripped onto the shifting sands to be carried away into the sea. With time and soothing embraces, their pain dissipated into a mist swept out by the ocean breeze and into the setting sun.
"The sunset is so beautiful, isn't it?"Cedric lifted his head at Zoe's words to behold the dying sun's peach radiance."Mm."
After a moment of silence, she said quietly and seriously, "Cedric, you and me... do you think this is what they call destiny?"
He clasped her soft hand and murmured in response, "I'm... so lucky."
"Cedric... Let's be together forever." Zoe squeezed his hand and sidled closer.
Cedric sighed with contentment and brought her closer. He gazed at the beautiful purulent rays of the falling sun, thinking about everything that had transpired on this day and all that would pass between them.
"I love you, Zoe."
"I love you too, Cedric."
Their lips met, and sable strands met auburn ones, aflame in the dying light. The sand was their witness and the rumbling ocean their approving audience, and Zoe, his eternally faithful lover. Cedric thought to himself that nothing had ever been so perfect for him as this.
The end.
