The ambulance arrives and it takes him away. I couldn't see straight. Tears flooded my vision and i had a terrible migraine. Collin had come over and was holding my shoulders. Eliot clung to Collins jacket.
I stood frozen for a little while. I shuffled to find a sitting place. My legs went numb and I curled up in a ball on the couch. My life was going okay, then it was turned upside down.
"Jinny," Eliot said, "will dad be okay?"
"He's gonna be fine," Collin said in a light airy voice.
"You don't have to lie to me," Eliot said to Collin.
"Alright," Collin replied,"We don't know. He had a heart attack and maybe lost some of his memory, but not a lot."
"Will he still remember us?" Eliot had a noticeable lump in his throat.
"Yes," Collin said lovingly.
Tear pierced the back of my eyes. Like tiny needles. I swallowed hard to keep them from appearing, but it did no good. It was too late... I was crying again.
After a while the hospital called to say we can see our dad and that he's ok right now. Cole takes the family to the hospital.
We sit silently in the white waiting room. Collin has sent a mass text that my dad is in the hospital, so my phone is blowing up with texts like
"Jinny are you ok?"
"Jinny I'm so sorry."
And
"I hope he's ok!"
No amount of texts can make me feel better.
Then Melody busts through the wooden hospital doors with a big bag labeled SEPHORA. And sits down right next to me.
"Oh my god i came a quick as i could," she says, "are you okay?" She pets my head.
"Yeah," I say quietly, "no, no I'm not,". I change my mind.
"Well, lucky for you I bought everyone gifts," she digs in the bag and gives me some makeup and chocolate.
"Every girls needs," she nods and continues digging.
"Eliot," she begins, "a Visa gift card for $40," she hands it to him and his face lights up.
"DJ, a brand new beanie and a guitar pick SIGNED by Ed Sheeran," DJ wipes his eyes and smiles.
"Jack, you get a key to your house WITH a keychain. You will never loose it again. I also got you new headphones," she shuffles around to Cole.
"Cole, you get hair gel from Europe and a new tie!" She exclaims and sits next to me again.
"Collin I had a feeling you would be here," she said.
"How did you know?" Collin asked.
"Best friend connection with me and Jinny here. Anyways, thanks for being here for her when I couldn't," she starts, "so I got you... A gift card also. This one has $100," she gives it to him.
"No I cant take that," he said modestly.
"Take it," she says and shoves it down his hoodie.
I hug Melody.
"Thank you," i said quietly, "I never would have talked again."
"Well thats what I'm here for," she pets my hair.
"Im so glad you are my best friend. You made my family happy and now, just looking at their faces makes me happier than i have ever been."
Everyone comes in for a hug and we stand there for what feels like forever. Im in the middle of the warmest, best, most beautiful hug with everyone I need support from.
And I start crying.
