- Maddie's POV -

Hi! I'm Maddie Nicole Ziegler. I'm twelve years old. My little sister, Mackenzie is ten. we have the same wavy brown hair and dark eyes. Everyone that we meet thinks that we are twins. We once switched places for a week and nobody noticed, it was so weird.

Today is the day of the reaping. It's my third year in the drawing and Mackenzie"s first. Luckily   Mackenzie is  only entered once, unfortunately I am entered five times. I tried not to think of the odds, I mean there are a lot of people in district 14, I'm sure that I won't be picked. Suddenly, i heard a shrill scream. I ran to Mackenzie, she was crying. "Kenz, what's wrong?" I asked my little sister.

"It was me!" She cried. I held Mackenzie's hand.

"It's OK, your only entered once. You will be fine." I reassured my sister. She nodded and wiped away a tear.

"I love you Maddie." Kenz whispered giving me a hug.

"I love you too."

Later that day Mackenzie and I had to get ready for the reaping. I put on my nicest California kisses dance wear and did my hair in a tight donut bun. Mackenzie wore her bright colored purple pixies crop top and booty shorts. her hair was also in a donut bun. "Oh Kenz. You look beautiful." i told my sister. She smiled.

"You do too." I graped her hand and we made our way to commons, where the two tributes for the Dance Games are picked. Everyone stood in clumps. Everyone with last names A-J In front, K-P in the middle, and Q-Z in the back. I squeezed Mackenzie's hand.

"Everything will be OK, I promise." I whispered. Mackenzie smiled.

"Hello! Hello? Oh, hi! I'm here to pick the tributes for the 67th annual Dance Games! The Dance Games were first developed when one district (1)  became too powerful and tried to out dance the capitol. Each district will donate one man and women starting at the age of ten to dance to the death so that there will be no more rebellion. Well, ladies first." Marcy Blanket, district 14's representative announced as she did every year.

Mackenzie squeezed my hand very hard and closed her eyes. "Our women Tribute is.......... Mackenzie Ziegler!" Marcy yelled. My heart stopped and Mackenzie's eyes widened. She began to cry uncontrollably. "Ms. Zeigler?" Marcy asked while looking around the girls. I took a deep breath, hugged My sister, Mackenzie, and ran up to the stage.

"Wait! Wait! Don't go!" Mackenzie screamed trying to get to me. "She's not Mackenzie! I am!" Mackenzie screamed. The crowd laughed a bit.

"Oh Look a sister in shock!" Marcy giggled. "Settle down dear, your sister was picked." I looked down at my shoes, I was pretending to be my little sister and now I will dance to the death. "Now the men!......... Josh Hyland!" My eyes widened. Oh no, not josh. Anyone but Josh! Josh walked up to the stage. "Now you two shake hands" I shook his hand.

We were led into an isolated room. The second Marcy left Josh turned to me. "Maddie What the hell are you doing?" He whisper-yelled. I bit my lip.

"Mackenzie would have never made it, I couldn't let her just die!" I cried. Josh put his arm around my shoulder and pulled me into a hug. I pulled away. "No, right now your not the boy who's liked me since I was four. Your my competitor, I have to dance better than you to survive!" I cried. looking hurt Josh turned away.

"How did you get past Lacy and my parents without them saying that you are Maddie?" Josh asked. I shrugged.

"I think that they knew it was me but they also know that I have a better chance at winning than she does." I answered. Suddenly Marcy barged in.

"You will each have five minuets to say goodbye." She led My sister, My best friend Lacy, and Joshe's parents in.

Mackenzie ran to me. "Maddie, you can't do this. People are going to notice that I'm not you, please just let me do this." I shook my head.

"Mackenzie you would be the youngest there, it wouldn't be fair. I might have a chance of winning, Kenz." Mackenzie nodded in agreement. "I love you Mackenzie." I whispered.

"I love you too Maddie!" Kenz cried. Lacy came up to me and hugged me.

"Maddie you can win this." Lacy whispered. Josh's parents hugged me and wished me good luck.

"Everyone out!" Marcy yelled as she barged in. Mackenzie grabbed me.

"No! No! Noooo!" She screamed as she was being carried out. What have I done?

- Mackenzie's POV -

I can't believe that I let Maddie take my spot in the Dance Games. What kind of sister am I? I know that I had no chance of living through the Dance Games but Maddie may not either. I laied alone on Maddie's bed. If my mother and father were still here they wouldn't have let Maddie take my place. I thought as I cried myself to sleep.
