Looking out my window, into the blazing sun
I can not help but love Him, these feelings overwhelm
I close my eyes, thinking of him and me and that one special day
When he told me he loved me before leaving me in silence
He left in a camouflage charade, kissing me leaving our last farewells
I didn't hear from him, and weeks and months had passed by
When one day a letter arrived with a package that read
"My dearest Love, I will see you again
please wait until that day
I love your eyes and dream of your smile
sincerely your army man,"
In the box was was a folded flag,
and another, snaller box, Velvet, with a ring
I couldn't help but smile, as salty tears ran down my face
Another six months had passed, when the doorbell rang
I ran outside to see him standing in the lawn, gun hanging on his shoulder
I rush to him and stay in his embrace before he says,
"I'm home now love
we can set the date and pick the flowers
let's get married, lets elope
i want to be with you forever."
and so we did, the invitations sent, i was happy as could be
After a week I was in my dress, ready to walk down the Isle and exchange the binding vows
I locked arms with my father, and he led me to my fiances side after wiping away a tear
He slipped a ring on my finger, and then we heard the words,
"You may now kiss the bride." He pulled me close and i whispered in his ear
"I have loved you forever, my army man." Then we started our new lives, side by side
After a year together he was again called away, and I cried for hours
Once more he said goodbye and was gone, off to fight
Weeks and Months slowly passed
when I received another letter, which i read aloud
"My dearest wife,
I hope you haven't waisted your tears,
just know I am fighting for our child's freedom.
tell our son I Love him, and I dream of the day we can be
a family again, your army man."
After what seemed like forever, my husband stood on the porch once again
He was there in time for our sons third birthday
We stayed up late laughing and talking
I told him about our boys favorite things, and we talked about getting a pet.
The next day we got a puppy, and played with it in the yard
He was home to send our son to his first day of school, but then he was called again
This time not to fight, but we had to move in order to stay a family
So our Child started Middle school in a different home, in a different state
A few years passed, and we sent our son to his first day of high school
And then another call, And the next day my love was gone
we didn't hear anything until one day when we received a call
" My love, My dear I'm sorry
I have to stay here for while, to take care of the ones who lost their familys,
to find them a home, Remember I love you."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing, but I forced an answer
'I understand, i really do
I'll tell our son whats going on...
I love you to, Army man" Then I hung up the phone
The next time I saw my husband was At the graduation
when our son received his diploma
Then the years flew by next thing i knew we were sitting on the porch
watching our grandchildren play in the yard.
we spent many anniversaries and birthdays together, before he passed away
and it was another year until i fell ill, and every night I would say
"I will see you again
please wait for me
I love you Army man."
And now i am buried, six feet under
next to a tomb stone that reads
"loved Father, Beloved Army man"
And here we will rest forever
