Honestly, this is taking forever, I want to begin the story so badly. But here we are... I DECIDED I SHALL GIVE AT SOME DETAIL OF THIS STORY AND HOW YOU WILL BEGIN YOUR JOURNEY. I assume that all of you are up to date with One Piece and so forth, so I will somewhat give this first part away.
Right now, location wise, you are on the island of Zou, stationed in a place near where the minks' old ruins were [and if you all remember correctly this is where Bepo's homeland and tribe are]. When you first arrived on the island [lemme tell you, that's a long story in itself, because you had to climb up on the huge elephant], you were very young and had to make a deal with the duke of day, Inuarashi, to be able to eat and sleep there. He allowed it, but there were a few conditions you had to follow; first, you had to keep watch around the island, and second, at night you needed to be out of sight in the forest, when Nekomamushi, the night ruler, came out. Many of the minks who lived their, disliked human beings for having no fur, but tolerate them because they see them as hairless monkeys [besides, it is very rare to find humans on their island].
As time passed, they've grown more tolerable of what you looked like and began to respect you. Once the mink tribe began to trust you more and more, you told them that the real reason you came. You wanted to stay out of sight from pirates because they chased after you for a long time. But because of the trust they grew for you, they saw you as a faithful friend, and so forth, declared that they would protect you.
Eventually, further down in time, Jack, a pirate and right-hand man of Kaido, invaded. The minks, remembering the declaration they made that day, told you to go into hiding. A small part of the tribe took you to the outskirts of the town, into the forest. They took you to a specific type of tree that binds on your body once it detects your sleeping patterns and wraps you in it's blanket-like leaves and merge you into the truck of it. Despite not feeling sleepy, they gave you a potion that puts you to sleep for a period of time, so that you are not found when bound by the tree. Before they left you, they informed you that the tree "detects you as soon as you awake from slumber, and thus will release you". Despite knowing what can happen if you don't help them, you heed their advise and drank the bottle that puts you to sleep.
Hey yeah... I know it'll probably be a while till the next season starts, but until then, I'll shall prepare this story...
