Prologue:

A cold shiver ran down her spine.  She knew, she knew – though subconsciously- that something was wrong. He stood there, his body, motionless and rigid and his face was masked with a serene calm, a calm that didn’t reach his eyes.

“Elizabeth,” He said her name; his voice painted with sadness.

Her eyes widened at the sound of his voice. She knew what he was going to say next and prayed he wouldn’t… but alas, silent prayers are rarely answered.

“Goodbye, Elizabeth.” She already knew the words before they came but hearing them with his voice was like having a knife pierce her chest.

Her vision began to shake, everything began to wobble.

‘What? Why is everything moving?’ She thought momentarily but then realizing that her knees were trembling.

“Ezron…” She called his name; pain and disbelief vivid in her voice.

“We live in two different worlds, Elizabeth.” He told her in a calm tone, but his eyes defied his tone.

Beneath his calm exterior, his charcoal gray eyes seemed pained and tormented.

“Nothing will change!” She shouted her voice more earnest than livid.

“No…” he said looking up at the tree wherein its petals fluttered everywhere.

“Impossible…” She fell to the ground. With this one word alone he scorned her and she felt a knife go through her heart again, this time, cutting deeper than the first time.

“Why?” She cried after a brief pause, her voice breaking.

“Am I so repulsive to you that you can no longer look at me?” She retorted, angry now.

“Or is it our status? I, a Harpin- a creature much lower than you- and you, a Lilithian – the highest rulers of Demien?” She added fuming.

The emotion in his eyes changed, though his face remained calm his charcoal gray eyes showed deep pain and concern. Elizabeth was crying to herself now, her whole frame shaking. Ezron stared at her then decided to himself that what he was about to do would seem wrong, but it was what was the best for everyone, especially Elizabeth.

She looked up at him again, her azure blue eyes penetrating his. Then she noticed something… Was it the sudden change of expression or the sudden calm in his voice when he spoke? No, it was neither of the two. But rather, It was the sudden calm in his eyes, As if he’d already moved on in those few short minutes. Pain flooded her body; the realization hit her like she was just shot a million times through the heart.

how could he look so calm like that?’ She asked her self though she already had her answer.

‘You can’t be sad to leave someone you won’t miss.’ She concluded in her own mind.

“Do you not Love me anymore, Mon Cherie?” She asked verifying her suspicion. No answer.

“Or was it that you never even loved me, Mon amour?” Her azure blue eyes not wavering from his.

She waited for his answer but all she received was the deafening sound of silence.

I knew it’ She thought burning tears escaping her eyes. ‘I was never anything to him, But I loved him so’ She thought feeling as if the universe played a cruel trick on her. As if it was intentionally planned that she would fall in- love with him and he would conveniently tear her heart out

She knew she should be mad right now but, all she felt was shame, stupidity and remorse. Besides it was her fault she fell for him. She led her self to believe that maybe he was starting to feel the same for her. She let herself believe that maybe he could reciprocate when she knew, when everybody knew that he couldn’t.

“I’m sorry…” She murmured softly as if talking to herself.

“All this time, I was in-love on my own.” She said talking more to herself than to him.

“I had gotten exited on my own. I should’ve known and listened to everyone because they were obviously right.” She said a beautiful soft smile on her lips and tears rolling down her rosy cheeks.

“You were and always will be too good for me.”

“I don’t deserve you.” She added, standing up slowly, her eyes looking into his.

“I won’t stop you from leaving anymore” She said putting on a fake smile on her face.

“If you want to then-” She couldn’t bring her self to say the last words.

If you want to then you can leave… was what she just couldn’t say.

He smiled at her. Then came close -so close- as if to kiss her but he simply brushed a loose strand of her hair.  He turned to leave and just like that he was out of her life. The moment his form will vanish in the distance, he will be gone forever, and soon  become nothing more than a memory.

Part of her wished he’d kissed her like that one summer night when they first kissed but a part of her told her that it was better this way because it would be harder to let go and forget if he’d kissed her.

“Ezron!” she called his name for the last time just to assure herself that she hadn’t made him up in her mind and that he was as real as the pain.

He turned and faced her, the same smile on his face.

“Are you really leaving?” She asked regretting the words right after they left her lips.

He hesitated for a moment. There was a faint moment of indecision. Should I really leave?
